Chat’n’Chew

My friends and I recently went to a mixology class, but afterwards we were starving.  SpB suggested hitting up the nearby Chat&Chew, for their comfort food platters.  She assured us huge plates of food, and none of us were against that!

HB ordered Thanksgiving on a roll.  I think she liked it.  It looked pretty good.

She also opted for a side of green beans instead of fries, I guess to be healthy?  I had some of this and really liked it.  The creamy mushroom soup was nice and savory, while the beans weren’t completely mush.  They were softer than I cook mine, but that wasn’t a bad thing in this case.  Perfect.

AB ordered a small bowl of mac&cheese, which I guess she liked.  I didn’t hear any complaints, and I meant to try some, but I totally forgot.  Oops.

She also ordered a side of ‘smashies’ or mashed potatoes with skin on.  Not sure why there was no gravy.  I didn’t try hers, since it also came with mine (but with gravy).

SpB ordered what she’d mentioned while selling us on the restaurant: their giant burrito.  I know for sure she enjoyed this, though I didn’t really glance over much while I concentrated on eating my meal.

…and my blossom honey dip’t fried chicken.  Put it this way: I want to make this at home.  It was fried chicken with a nice crisp exterior but almost glazed in honey.  My biggest problem was the chicken: a strip that appeared to be all white meat and very dry, and then three wing pieces.  I don’t want three wing pieces.  What the hell?  If those pieces hadn’t tasted so good, I’d have been really pissed off.  I want a thigh!  Or a drumstick!  Three wing pieces is pretty bullshit if you ask me.  And you did, or you wouldn’t be reading my site.  The smashies smothered in gravy were excellent (and helped with the dry white meat I ate), and the vegetables were cooked tender-crisp, which I prefer over boiled/steamed mushy veggies.  Perfect.

When the waitress came over to tell us they had a $5 pie a la mode special, we didn’t even need to ask each other; telepathically communicated um, yes please.  Apple crumb was chosen, and of course we asked that they heat the pie for us.  The ice cream arrived in a separate cup.

…which I quickly dumped on top.  The pie was tasty enough, though I would have liked more apple and more crumb topping.  That isn’t to say that the other girls dogged it before I could have any, just that I wanted it to be thicker pie… but still decent.

Yvo says: StB (who was not there that night) first mentioned this place to me years ago, how she liked it for its diner-style-comfort foods, atmosphere and decor.  I see the appeal and I’d certainly not object to returning, though I’ll make sure next time to order something different or to request a delicious blossom honey dip’t fried chicken thigh… mmm, drool.  Yum!

I love this spot! When I worked at BWG across the street, we’d often go to Chat n’ Chew on break. A reliable comfort food favorite.
