I am on a quest for burgers. Though I’ve found my favorite burger, I’m powering my way through burgers around the city to make absolutely certain I’ve found the one that best suits my personal tastes and is all-around amazing, worthy of that title. Do you have suggestions? Leave ’em in comments, because things are about to get burgeriffic up in this joint…To that end, I visited Veselka, where I’ve been aware of their awesome burger for years and years and years. Despite enjoying my experience there and wanting that burger hard, despite hanging out in the area and walking by Veselka routinely, I’ve never returned… until a few nights ago.
Did you know the burger deluxe (platter) is $12.45? Cheese is an additional $1.25 (I got peperjack) and bacon is an additional $2.50 (I opted out). That’s still really inexpensive given what you receive: this awesome burger! The patty is a hefty 8 ounces, flattened until it’s fairly thin but big around, and the bread is a nice little cradle for the juices. The jack had a nice kick to it, and I barely added anything save my normal tomato slice (nice, thick and juicy!) and a swipe of mayo to one bun. The meat’s charbroiled taste comes through cleanly, and overall, this is a solid burger.
My negatives are mostly that though they satisfy my thinner-patty preference, it’s still too big for me inasmuch I was super stuffed at the end. Tasty, and I would not be unhappy returning for more, but I would unlikely go out of my way to return. I AM always in that area though, so it’s not out of the question that I find myself there late night after some drinks…
PS The borscht that I failed to include the photo here is also amazing.
