Though I’ve visited Schnipper’s many times over the years, the first time happened during my 2012 blogging hiatus – meaning I never posted about it. The following times happened in the past year, and I put pics up on Instagram but forgot to ever actually, y’know, write about it. I’ve visited both the Flatiron and the Midtown East locations and I find their burger a solid contender in the world of burgers (pictured above, Flatiron location)… it’s not huge, and I prefer smaller burgers. It’s cooked properly, and boasts lots of flavor and a strong showing on all fronts. I would not hesitate to eat it again — except for one messed up thing about Schnipper’s.
The pricing at Schnipper’s in Midtown East (where my office is) is ridiculous vs. the pricing at the Flatiron location, which I explain at the bottom of this post (you didn’t know I write for Midtown Lunch?!). They charge $2.51 more (before tax) for the burger in Midtown East!! So I rarely ever get that at the Midtown East location.
Instead, I get things like the sloppy cheese fries – fries topped with sloppy joe mix and cheese, lots and lots of cheese (there’s shredded on top and liquid underneath). This is a meal itself for me — delicious and fatty… om nom nom.And on a recent Friday, I ordered their fresh market salad – which I totally love, it has the right combination of textures and flavors for me and comes in at just under $10. I know, I know; who goes to a burger place and gets a salad? Well, I do. Plus cheese fries – I opted for no sloppy, because I knew I was going for fried chicken that night. Hahaha.
While you can certainly do better for burgers, you could also do a lot worse. I think Schipper’s falls solidly in the middle of the rankings for me – its three locations are in fairly convenient places, and I know I’ll be back… at the least for those cheese fries.

Whoah- that’s a big difference in price between flatiron and midtown east! How obnoxious….
I used to work near their 8th ave location and as a vegetarian i love that their salads are all big, hearty and meatless-the asian chopchop is my favorite!
