One of my dearest friends – known to y’all on my blog simply as StB – recently got married in Maui, Hawaii. There was no way I was going to miss this for the world, so I took myself on a week long trip… read along as I share everything I ate on this incredible vacation!
Some of you may realize that I visit San Francisco once or twice a year, for various reasons but namely because I love San Francisco. It’s a second home to me. And one of the things I love about SF is the abundance of delicious ice cream, including Lappert’s – though it’s in Sausalito, so the last few trips I’ve not gone up that far and stuck to the other ice cream shops I love… In any case, after my walk to Kihei for fish & chips, I wandered around closer to the resort and found myself at The Shops at Wailea – literally a 3 minute walk from the resort lobby – and got super excited to see Lappert’s was there.
What did I get? Why banana fudge caramel, of course! And it was every bit as lovely as I remembered: banana ice cream base, with a thick fudge stripe running around, and the slight caramel edge… just so good. I ordered the teeniest size because that was all I wanted, and it was perfect. Love.
Then I walked back to the resort and did about the most cliche thing ever: stood on the beach and watched the sun set over the ocean. The only thing that could have made this more cliche was having a guy with me. Thankfully I was alone 😉 but that didn’t change how beautiful Hawaii is. I could feel all the tension flying out of me after just one glorious day in Hawaii… lovely, lovely.
Yvo says: This ice cream is worth going out of your way to try. Friends also tried their coffee(s) over the next few days, and told me how good it was, so if you like coffee, try that too… or even mix the two and get one of their coffee ice creams (there are a bunch of different flavors). There are multiple locations of Lappert’s in Hawaii, and at least two in the US (San Francisco and Las Vegas, if memory serves), so this isn’t too hard to get for West Coasters… so good.

I’m trying to imagine you standing there, photographing the sunset in Hawaii. No, I can’t picture it, photo or not.

Haha, why is that? I’m totally into this romantic sh*t, even as contradictory to the way I may seem 🙂

I do like coffee AND ice cream. Probably get hot coffee to drink and scoops of their chocolate flavors. Hopefully not forget to conquer if I’m in HI, SF, or LV.

Just make sure you’re with me, and we’ll go! Though if we’re in SF, I’m all about Bi-Rite Creamery and Humphry Slocombe to a lesser degree… 🙂

Hah! We’re so similar! I always try to find some ice cream or gelato when I’m on vacation. Though I hardly eat it when I’m home.
Also, love sunsets. Nature’s beauty. I’m being serious.

I do love ice cream, but I realized I don’t know many ice cream places in NYC vs. how many I know in other cities. Weird right?
I actually like sunrises better because they are more ‘hopeful’ (I attribute feelings to seasons) while sunset is more … romantic, I guess?, but both are awesome.
