After sleeping in the day after we held the Father’s Day Gift Dinner feast, we decided to meet up with CT’s Father for brunch since he was in town the whole weekend and we didn’t get a chance to meetup yet. CT & I wanted to go to P.C. Richards to check out some new stoves, so we decided to go somewhere nearby. I remembered that Highpoint Bistro & Bar was nearby and offered quite a nice brunch. We enjoyed their clam bake back on July 4th a lot and wanted to return. Who knew it would be so soon?
When we arrived around 11:30, there were only a handful of tables occupied, but the restaurant quickly filled up as the meal went on. I was glad to see Highpoint was doing well.
After we ordered, we were again given the doughnut amuse. Still warm from the fryer and just as good as last time.
CT says: Still stealing my heart. Yummmm donuts.
We started with two appetizers.
“Naughty” Calamari with cherry peppers, haricot vert and sweet chili sauce. The calamari and green beans were in a tempura-like batter. Unfortunately(or fortunately depending how you look at it), a lot of the pieces got stuck together when they were put in the fryer. Nothing like some fried goodness to start your day.
CT says: My Dad really enjoyed these, but I thought they were just ok. A little too high breading-to-squid ratio. I continued to eat these (I was hungry) but probably wouldn’t voluntarily order these again with some of the other better options available.
CT’s Dad also picked out the Tuna Tartar Tacos with tobiko, avocado mousse, seaweed salad and ahi mayo since we enjoyed them last time. As you can see the tuna was served a lot quicker so it didn’t have a chance to oxidize as much. I would definitely order this if I return for a third time.
CT says: Just as delicious as last time, with better coloring. I understand why this is one of their most popular dishes.
CT chose the Eggs Benedict with English muffin, caramelized onion, chorizo and hollandaise. It was quite a simple presentation, but she enjoyed it. I think she thought there was too much onion on it. She was so happy that the eggs were perfectly poached as she has not had the best of luck when it comes to runny eggs.
CT says: I was pretty happy with this dish. The eggs were perfectly poached and runny and the chorizo added a little extra flavor and spice over regular Canadian bacon. The onions were really nicely caramelized, offering a sweetness to balance the chorizo’s saltiness, but there was too much. Fortunately, that was easily remedied by simply brushing some aside. Unfortunately, the English muffin was a little tough and hard to cut through, which was not so easily remedied. Still, it wasn’t a deal-breaker for this dish, which I would happily order again.
Now that is what I call runny!
CT’s Dad and I both ordered the Iron Omelette with tomato, cheese, spinach and home fries; although, he substituted the home fries for french fries. It was quite a sizable plate of food. The omelette was packed to the gills with fillings. I could have used a little less cheese though since it added even more salt to an already heavily salted dish. The spinach was previously sauteed with garlic, which overpowered the rest of the dish. Unfortunately the home fries weren’t as crispy as they looked. It wasn’t terrible, but I probably wouldn’t order it again.
The fries were quite good, but we all got too full to finish them.
All in all, Highpoint is a great brunch place. Some of the dishes can be hit or miss, but the menu is large enough to have a nice range of options. I still have yet to eat there for dinner, but I will try to soon. Thanks to CT’s Dad for brunch! We found a nice stove at P.C. Richards and are looking forward to using it.

Oooh, a three-shopping-cart brunch! Aren’t we fancy now.
I dream of being able to poach that well.
TT says
gotta go back for the 10 shopping cart tasting menu.
BeerBoor says
I’m sure Gilt will make one up soon.

Let me know when you think you’ve succeeded… I’ll come over for a final verdict! 😀

Dude, Cyrus’s cousin in Atlanta showed me how to perfectly poach an egg. He’s a trained chef.
Hungry says
Tips:
Don’t let the water boil. It should be simmering or lower.
Add some vinegar to the water.
Crack the egg into a shallow dish then slowly immerse into the water.

It’s like driving stick: I know how it’s supposed to work, I just can’t ever get it to work. So I let others do it for me.
Off to buy a dozen eggs…

I’ve seen a shopping cart 100 times bigger! Ok, maybe 500 times!

I really want to try that tuna tartar taco.
T.C. says
I want to be served via shopping cart minus any fellow hobos.
Meal look good. Donut minis and runny egg have my attention.

I can’t imagine how they load up the ‘shopping carts’ into the dish washer…
TT says
very true. i am glad they put some paper in them before filling them up.

Oh man. Those tartare tacos. They looks good. I’m not hot on the hard shells, but I wouldn’t mind them for the tatare.
I remember the older post because of the mini shopping carts…I still want them even though I have no idea what I’d do with a mini shopping cart.
