Chambre de Sucre

July 15, 2011 by Feisty Foodie 4 Comments

Recently, I had the great pleasure of being introduced to Chambre de Sucre by Kathy.  Currently available only online, this Japanese-based gourmet sugar company makes the cutest sugar cubes.  You might wonder: why the heck would I want gourmet sugar?  Honestly, it might seem silly, but I’m a huge believer in taking the time out to take care of yourself, and treat yourself once in a while to things simply to make yourself happy.

Think of it this way: you’re having a bad day.  All you want while at work is to curl up under your desk and make all the stupid people go away (I encountered this feeling frequently when I worked at the law firm, hahaha).  Or maybe you just want a moment to yourself.  Whatever the case, get yourself a coffee or espresso (if the swill your office provides suffices, use that; if not, take a walk to your local coffee shop) and take the time to set it up nicely.  If you do that, and get something like the above, tell me that won’t make you smile.  It’ll be like those Twix commercials where you “Need a moment?” and time stops as you enjoy yourself, a moment of complete and pure selfishness, just to recenter.

Or perhaps you are hosting a bridal/baby shower.  (I’m at that age…)  You can host at home, and still add touches here and there to make it extra special without incurring all the cost of having it in a restaurant.  Wouldn’t this make for the loveliest coffee/tea service?  Pieces of sugar in the shape of flowers, some with the flower decorated on top, and there are some (not pictured here) in the shape of coffee beans.  The slightest little personal touch to make a shower super special, yes?

Aside from all that, though, just to have these in your home as your own special treat is reason enough to order some.

Be sure to read the fascinating history of Chambre de Sucre on their website, and peek at their gorgeous photographs.  For another post with fabulous photos, check out DessertBuzz.

Please note that I received the sugar courtesy of Chambre de Sucre. I received no monetary compensation for this review, nor was I obliged in any way to post about this experience, positively or otherwise. This is my own opinion, and I feel it was unbiased; you are free to take from this what you will.

These are so Japanese – so much about the beauty and the artistry of the food. I just love them! If/when I have a special occasion, I would LOVE to order these!

Aren’t they just adorable? They may be available retail (in stores) sooner than later… that’s word on the street 😉
