I have seen the future, and it is SnoPo. I was alerted to SnoPo’s existence by my darling friend StB. She said, “ice/ice cream/cotton candy” and I just stared blankly, not comprehending. So we went to get some after checking out some of the eats at New World Mall (post to come; I just had to share SnoPo with you as soon as possible!); SnoPo sits in one corner of the food court in the basement. (Once you go down the escalators, it’s on the back left side.)
Since StB had enjoyed the mango one last time, this time, she just wanted the Oriental Milk Pure Snowy one. Unfortunately, they were out of that, and out of mango as well, so she got the green tea. I tried a bite and we both agreed it was slightly too bitter. Both of us enjoy bitter green tea ice cream and products, but in the case of SnoPo, it really needed a little more sweetness or it just attacks your tongue.
I went with a Lychee Pure Snowy. But you’re wondering, well, what IS SnoPo? It’s hard to describe, exactly, and is something you really need to just experience… Imagine a plate, piled high with the fluffiest, airiest snow you’ve ever had the good fortune to encounter – with no one’s footprints in it, of course. Or perhaps the most finely shaved ice ever experienced, already gently flavored. It’s then doused with a syrup, depending on the flavor you ordered.
This creates an incredible texture of shaved ice combined with ice cream combined with… cotton candy. It’s almost sticky, gooey even as you swipe your spoon through it, but then you put a spoonful in your mouth, and it is fluffy, airy, and it melts almost like ice cream does… and then floats you away on a sugar-high cloud. Lychee was sweeter than green tea, but it wasn’t so sweet that my teeth hurt. It was just right.
And while, yes, you’re paying $4 for this treat that is basically frozen water made 1000x better, look at how huge the medium is! Plastic spoon for perspective. Please note that this is the Lychee Pure Snowy (size medium) from the left side of the menu; StB mentioned that the Romantic Snowies, the second column, all sized large, have a ton of “weird” toppings and stuff and weren’t to her liking. Those are also $7-8, and it seemed odd to order a dessert that cost more than my dinner had.
I tried – and failed – to capture how each spoonful pulled away from the main pile of snow with a stretchy strand of deliciousness… it felt like scooping into some soft ice cream.
Note: the menu has other items like tea, bubble tea, and stuff like that, but it seemed like most people order a Snowy of some sort. The last panel of the menu inexplicably has a picture of what looks like a bowl of ramen, but no ramen – at least not from what I can tell of the first shot of the menu above (I zoomed in on the menu in the original file to see this). Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself if you get a Romantic Snowy: some of them had Froot Loops on them, random fruit, a red bean puddle, some banana slices, and even some cookies… so even if you have to ask five times, know what you’re ordering before you complain that this is terrible or overpriced! (I wouldn’t pay $7-8 for what I got topped with Froot Loops, you’re crazy.)
Seriously, I’ve seen the future of ice cold treats. This is it. Summer’s officially here, and I have found the next cold treat to beat the summer heat!
Yvo says: I’ve never seen or tasted anything like this anywhere else, and while my Taiwanese Ice experience is extremely limited, StB’s isn’t. She also said she’d not had ice this fine or cotton-candy like in the past. It is truly a lovely experience and I suggest everyone get out there to try it now… it’s so good! (Plus you can get a cheap dinner beforehand in the same food court.) YUM!!! You have to try it for yourself! Where else are you going to get this? Go go go!!!

If you hadn’t publically denounced origin as a source of expertise last week, you could have said – StB is a Taiwanese FOB. ð
Yvo says
Hahaha! StB goes to Taiwan nearly every year and eats this all the time in Taiwan and said this is better than that. I think that’s a much better origin of expertise! ð
PS Thanks again ð

Not much to look but it sounds like a good summer treat!! Yay, green tea and lychee. They have red bean and taro too? ð
Yvo says
Red bean definitely. Not sure about taro! We’ll find out next week I guess ð

it’s called éŠčąå° ð (literally “snowflake ice”)
I asked where to get it on SE like two years ago. Those fuckers told me it wasn’t in NYC. What a bunch of buttplugs.
em says
aww they didn’t lie to you, this place opened up like last month!
Yvo says
Hey now! Those words. Ewww. And yeah, this mall literally just opened, though there were snowflake ice places before this (StB told me this, I’d never had), but she said they weren’t as good as this place.

I am bad at censoring myself when I AM FURIOUS.

I went and checked out snopo last night with my wife. It tastes good and it has a nice mouthfeel that makes you want to eat more. It also contains milk. All of the flavors do. So if you think you are looking for a low calorie, dairy free snack, youll have to look elsewhere.
PS – im not talking about the sweetened condensed milk. I’m talking about th ingredients in the snowy.
