A friend of mine recently came into Queens to handle some bid’ness, and asked me for some cheap lunch options in my area. My mind immediately turned to Sajni 026, for its super cheap lunch buffet – $5.99/person!
The first plate – clearly not mine, as it contains a lot of green sauce. The usual suspects were present.
The chicken tandoori was juicier this time, not as dry as the last time I’d had it, and very good. I enjoyed the saag paneer, though mostly without the paneer 😉 I also really liked the chicken pieces in the 6pm position on my plate, very tender and juicy, well-flavored, though I can’t remember the name of it right now…
I wasn’t a big fan of the veggie pakora, finding it a bit soggy internally – the exterior was crisp enough, but the inside was just too doughy. Oh well.
Though it wasn’t included, I had to add an order of garlic naan, because I’d liked it so much the last time. It was super garlicky and delicious! I love the texture of the naan here, airy and awesome… but next time, for cheap buffet lunch, won’t order it, just to keep costs down (regular naan is included in the cost of the buffet). However, if I were going for dinner, it’s being added no doubt! 🙂
My friend’s second plate. Clearly a big eater!… and messy.
My second plate, nommalicious.
Yvo says: I continue to enjoy going to Sajni 026 for cheap food! I walked by yesterday and noticed that the buffet was no longer set up – not sure if that was temporary or a new change… guess I’ll find out the next time I go for a cheap lunch! Yummy!

Looks good! I think the chicken you like is Butter Chicken (or chicken Mahkni)… an indian buffet standard and usually very yummy.

They moved the buffet to the back of the restaurant. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and worried they weren’t doing it anymore!

Did you not admonish your friend to “keep it pretty” before the photo is snapped for that second plate? I mean really now.

Hooray for cheap indian fare!
Me love saag paneer, pakoras, basmati and garlic naan! Mmmmmm.
Isn’t chicken tikka marsala a buffet standard at times??
