Product Review: Bertolli Cheese Tortelloni in a Tomato Cream Sauce

July 14, 2010 by Feisty Foodie 9 Comments

IMG_2620.JPG

I’m really big on trying foods that I think I don’t like – something that I’ve eaten in the past and perhaps not been too thrilled with how it tasted, or just didn’t appreciate as much as other people seemed to – trying them again after a decent amount of time has passed, just to give them a fair shake.  I do this quite a bit, giving a few years between each try of a food… although some things, like olives, I kept trying a few times a month because they are just, by nature, something I should like!  Errr, anyway…

IMG_2621.JPG

Basically, a while back, I bought a bag of cheese tortelloni in a tomato cream sauce, because I don’t tend to like filled pastas (ravioli, agnolotti, and of course, tortelloni).  It was a long time ago; frozen pasta plus I was just never in the mood for trying tortelloni again.  Ah well.  It got a lil freezer burn, yes.

IMG_2622.JPG

It cooked down fine enough after the freezer burn melted away.

IMG_2623.JPG

Not too bad looking, right?

IMG_2625.JPG

And the cheese innards.  Verdict?  I think this was fine, but I still don’t like tortelloni.  Not their fault – and yes, I’ve had housemade, super fancy pants tortellini/tortelloni at restaurants, from nice places, and I still don’t like it all that much.  So please no comments on how I just have to try “good” tortellini/tortelloni – I don’t think I like it!  But feel free to recommend places for me to try and what I should order!  🙂

Do you guys re-try foods that you previously didn’t like?  Have you found yourself changing your mind about anything at all?  Anything that you just keep trying but never like?  Share in the comments please!

As I have gotten older my palate has definitely changed.

I don’t think I will ever like chicken liver.

I don’t like tortelloni, either; it’s just too much heavy pasta wrapped around not enough filling for me. I do, however, love a soft, silky agnolotti! I used to hate celery and now I can’t eat enough of it. Still can’t stomach liver, pate, or licorice!

Lamb. I want so very much to like it, but with only one or two occasions, I just dislike the taste. It always looks so good too.

Oh well. I’ll take your filled pastas and give you my lamb.

I like to retry things, and have had pretty good luck learning to like different foods over time. For example, I can now really love beer and can appreciate cilantro and olives (none of which I used to be able to stomach). Still working on coffee, but I’ve gotten a bit better since having good coffee abroad.

I love filled pasta as long as the pasta is thin enough. I hated mustard as a kid but love it now. Go figure that I hate mayo now though.

Intestines – they don’t get less stinky or tastier, even when grilled. lol. Raw onions won’t do either. Cooked please.

And I will eat mustard (no probs with honey) but I can’t say I like it. Ketchup and mayo in my fast food world.

Another who dislikes tortellini, love ravioli though.

A few years ago I wouldnt eat blue cheese or strong cheddars and now love them, part of that comes from being away from the UK cheese was something I really, really missed on the road.

Liver will never be a food for me or brussel sprouts – however they are cooked. And um mashed potato.
