A few Saturdays back, my birthday bunch of friends (as in, we seem to generally meet up for birthdays only, haha) gathered for MK’s birthday brunch. Originally meant to go out to PB’s place in LI for a BBQ, the weather forecast was for thunderstorms on and off throughout the day, so we canceled that and instead went for brunch. Not a bad choice… get it? GET IT? HA… oh, fine, what are you, the pun-police??? Hmph.
You probably can’t see it, but brunch is 14.95 and includes two of your choice of drink – a few different beers, mimosa, bloody mary, coffee, tea, soda, etc., toast, home fries, and your choice of bacon, ham or sausage. That’s really not a bad deal, considering location of the place, and the choices of food offered. I was surprised how empty the entire place was on a Saturday morning… we were one of only a few tables, as the rain raged down over the city, giving it a rough bath…
*shakes head* Sorry, thought I was writing a story there for a second. Anyway, I only managed to photograph two dishes, that of BF’s banana stuffed French toast.
The menu states: Giant French Toasted Croissant stuffed with bananas and garnished with fresh fruit and powdered sugar. BF said it was pretty tasty, though he wasn’t keen on the excessive fruit and didn’t eat most of his blueberries (which I happily munched on). Also, he was still hungry afterwards, which is unusual, given that he doesn’t tend to eat too much and most definitely not for his first meal of the day.
I ordered the salmon benedict – been on a real fix for that for brunch lately, should probably learn to make it myself, haha – and was extremely pleased with their rendition. The yolks of the poached eggs were perfectly runny, but the whites were fully cooked, yum, and there was no lack of sauce. The home fries were really quite good, too, needing nothing but the tiniest dip of ketchup (I wound up giving much of these to the BF, as he was still hungry), although the sausage was a big mehhh. Nothing special though nothing horrid either.
Yvo says: While nothing particularly special, I thought this was a great deal and well, a great choice *groan* ok I’ll stop! for brunch on a Saturday morning. The service was fairly attentive (though it took a while to bring our second round of drinks), and I didn’t hear anyone complaining about their food. Inexpensive to boot.
