Being city folk… and slightly strange… and being bombarded with commercials our entire trip to Ocean City a few weekends ago… B & I wanted Dairy Queen. Specifically, we wanted waffle bowl sundaes, but ah, t’was not to be.
It was our last day in Ocean City (don’t worry, I’ll be posting about the other meals as well). We hadn’t eaten as we scrambled to get our lazy asses to check out in time. B said, “Let’s have Dairy Queen, I’ve never been there, they have burgers, right?” and yeah, they do, plus ICE CREAM HELLO, so we drove off. The first Dairy Queen along Coastal Highway to also serve burgers was a bit north, so we were literally starving by the time we went inside. We quickly placed our order: two cheddarburgers, fries, root beers, and a side of onion rings. The ice cream would be ordered later.
Oddly enough, my order came to $8 and change, although a glance at the menu said that it should have easily topped $12. We later realized that although she placed the order for doubles of everything, she only charged me for one. Yowch. I sincerely hope that didn’t come out of her paycheck.
The place was pretty small, with two odd video games with prizes in the back (one of them claimed you could win a Wii; the other said you could win a PSP). We waited quite a while, I think because it was early, but boy, was it worth it…
Mmm. A basket full of goodness. The fries were fairly standard, but I was happy to see my burger came on a soft sesame bun (the picture on the menu hadn’t shown a sesame seeded bun).
Though our onion ring order was on the small side, it was really delicious; crispy, real onions, and seasoned well. The next time I go, I am definitely substituting my fries for onion rings. Yummmmmm.
Cross section. My burger was juicy and quite tasty. I can definitely foresee coming here again if we passed by it on a roadtrip. (Unfortunately, there aren’t any locations very close to NYC.) Both of us scarfed down our burgers and then groaned at how full we were. I sighed wistfully, staring at the pictures of the waffle bowl sundae that adorned the walls, and conceded that it would be too much to try to eat one now. We agreed that if we saw a Dairy Queen further north on our trip home, we would stop for one… but by the time we were hungry enough again to want one, we were in NJ and didn’t pass any. Boo 🙁 WILL I EVER GET MY WAFFLE BOWL SUNDAE (before they stop this promotion)???
***Funny side note: right after we decided not to get a waffle bowl sundae, I went to use the restroom – long drive ahead – and I walked into the bathroom, where directly above the toilet loomed down at me a GIANT photograph of a delicious looking waffle bowl sundae. As I turned around to do my business, on the back of the door facing me was another GIANT image of a waffle bowl sundae, this time the other kind (I think turtle?). I looked around the bathroom and on each wall was a GIANT ad for their items, 3 of the 4 walls being ads for the waffle bowl sundae (the one above the toilet: the kind we’d wanted to order, chocolate fudge brownie; the one on the door the brownish sundae – caramel or turtle; and one ad for the three different kinds in total; the 4th ad being for I don’t know, burgers or something. I came out of the bathroom laughing hysterically.
Yvo says: Yummy, as far as fast food goes, not bad! I wonder why there aren’t any up here. I also wonder why Dairy Queen didn’t sue McDonald’s when they started making McFlurries, since they appear to be the same thing as a Blizzard. Not sure though since I didn’t get to try one. Also: the Blizzards are about the same price as the meals/burgers, which strikes me as really odd. Oh well.
good for road trip eating
