I reviewed Cracker Barrel ages ago now but since I had the chance to go again recently, why not?
I am a big fan of Cracker Barrel for its convenience during road trips, its cheap prices, and tastiness overall. I haven’t had many things here that I didn’t like (in fact, I can’t think of anything I haven’t liked there), but this time, I returned to my classic (it wasn’t a Friday, so no Friday Fish Fry for me, boo…).
B and I both opted to get the chicken fried chicken. Funny enough, he actually asked me about getting the rib eye, and I said “You got it last time and you liked it,” but he decided to go with what I was looking forward to… above is our creamy country gravy, which I do adore (and Homesick Texan swears is really easy to make)… and wound up eating some of his as well… oops…
The biscuits and cornbread they provide you… yum. I can’t say it’s particularly wonderful, but still tasty…
B’s meal, he chose corn, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese as his three sides. I still can’t believe how much food they give you – three sides! He liked his well enough, though he opted to not eat the gravy much, and he ignored the mac & cheese (“I only really wanted two sides,” said he. Oh well- I told him he could have doubled up on corn or mashed potatoes…).
Finally, my plate. Fried okra (meh, this was much better dipped generously into the country gravy); hash brown casserole, which I love; corn niblets, yum… and my chicken? Perfectly fried; crispy on the outside, succulent and juicy on the inside. No worries.
Part of why I look forward to road trips is definitely Cracker Barrel. May this never change.

Growing up, my family always stopped at Cracker Barrel on road trips. It was the greatest.
I miss that.
