As I’d mentioned in my last cooking post, a friend of mine, the captain of a fishing boat, had given me fresh fluke he’d just caught. Nothing better than super-fresh fish, so of course I thought how could I prepare this? Unfortunately, my boyfriend doesn’t eat a lot of seafood, including fish (though I’m slowly opening his mind about this- it’s not that he’s tried it and doesn’t like it, it’s that he’s had a few bad pieces, he grew up not eating it, and he hates that fishy smell. As we all know, good fish doesn’t smell bad! which I’m trying to show him)… so I had to agree to fry this so that he’d eat it.
The fish came out to about two fish, four filets, but I split them in half down the line to make it easier to cook. I coated these in seasoned flour (fresh ground black pepper, dill, a little onion powder, and salt), and just fried them up in a regular frying pan. They crisped up great and tasted even better with the tartar sauce recipe I provided. Yummy!!!
Remember that a large part of how good your fish tastes is how fresh it is. And do not overcook it!
I also fried up some chips…
Took a few potatoes, scrubbed and peeled them. Thinly sliced them- make sure you slice as evenly as possible, to ensure even cooking/cooking times- and then fried them in the pan before I fried the fish. Let them drain on paper towels and they crisp up beautifully.
Success! My boyfriend ate three big pieces of fish. I was impressed and happy that he now likes fried fish. Yummy! My tartar sauce was a big hit, too he used up that whole dish!
Enjoy!!!
