This was probably the restaurant that Craig and I enjoyed the most in the San Diego area. The prices were really reasonable, although later on I pointed out, well, you cook your own meat, so why wouldn’t they be?
They have these huge grill stations set up around the place- I believe 4 in all- and you just get up and do your thing after they hand you a platter of raw meat. There’s a sign on the side that tells you how long to grill each cut they serve, to attain the level of doneness you prefer.
Part of why this place was really jumping at the time was the novelty of it, although I thought to myself, “Um, Korean BBQ…?”
The sides were yummy, and the atmosphere is relaxed, casual and fun. It did seem to cater to men- it IS called the Gaslamp STRIP CLUB for a reason aside from their signature cut being the strip- with lots of drawings of naked or semi-naked women all over the walls, and dark booths, though, I guess in true California style, it was not decorated in dark oak and leather, like the good old fashioned steakhouses here in New York. Our steaks were cooked to perfection (by me), but even so, the seasoning/marinade on our steaks was delicious and I would definitely go back to this place. It was memorable, fun, and delicious.
Yvo says: Go here if you’re in the area. Really yummy and reasonably priced, fun as well.
Note: We did go to a yummy sushi restaurant whose name I think was Ra, but I can’t be sure, so I won’t be reviewing it. Also, there are no pictures because I didn’t start taking pictures of food in earnest until midyear 2005. And yes, I will be reviewing places that are not in New York.
