You may or may not have heard that I’m on a Restaurant Hiatus – that’s right, for all of July & August 2011, I won’t be eating at restaurants. The finer details are very much an “I’ll know it when I see it” type of thing, like Congress & porn, but ice cream for sure is totally allowed. I’ve got lots of posts in the bank to last y’all through (and I intend to post more about what I eat at home) and when I come out the other side, hopefully, I’ll be posting near-”real”-time, or closer than I am used [...]

I realized recently that I wasn’t quite sure where to get dumplings in Chinatown. I mean, I know where to get dumplings, but I didn’t know where the BEST ones were. I know where to get the BEST dumplings in Flushing, but… I needed a dumpling crawl to get my bearings and figure out which place to pledge allegiance to. The FBMers were more than happy to join – this time Hungry, TC, and BeerBoor were the participants. Our first stop was Tasty Dumpling. I’d asked around and this was the only place I hadn’t heard of in the past; [...]

After our disappointing dessert at Lina Frey and the immense popularity of a nearby ice cream place, CT and I decided to check it out for ourselves. It turned out that just down the block, across from Katz’s, was il labortorio del gelato. It definitely looked like some sort of laboratory. It was so clean and sanitized in there. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a big menu listing all of their flavors. We had to scrutinize the tiny tags in front of the serving tubs while we were on line. The line moved quick so it didn’t give us much chance [...]

It had been a while since we used a Blackboard Eats coupon, so we perused the listing of available offers to see what piqued our interest. A French bistro called Lina Frey in the Lower East Side sounded like the perfect dinner for a warm almost Summer evening. Once we arrived we saw that they were in full Summer mode with the front wall of windows completely open onto Houston Street. Strangely, around 7:30 there was only one other table with customers. The hostess offered us a four-top right at the front. I guess she wanted to make the restaurant [...]

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned how much I adore my girl KC here. Well, I do. She’s one of my favorite people in the world; the girl cares about her friends and family more than just about anyone I know. She’s insane, and she’ll go out of her way for her loved ones like no one else. She’s just awesome So when she mentioned wanting to check out Giano in the East Village, I said of course! and we made plans to visit one gorgeous night in early May. Beer Boor joined us as well, and we [...]
