As long-time readers know, baseball is one of my passions — and luckily, food and baseball tend to go hand-in-hand. Even more luckily, my team’s ballpark happens to boast one of (if not THE) best food selections in all of Major League Baseball. Of course, some may joke that’s because the food is the real draw since our team frequently doesn’t do so well, but to our crosstown rivals’ fans and our biggest haters I say this: when was the last time your team made it to the World Series? 2009? My team made is in 2015.
(Okay, I’m fully aware that the Yankees both made it to the World Series in 2009 and actually won, while the Mets made it in 2015 and lost, but my fact is still true.)
In any case, I’m always excited to report back to y’all about the food that’s available at my stadium and was invited to the press preview for what’s new in 2019, and what better time than the day before Opening Day (and a week before our home opener) to share what’s new?!
I know, all you care about is the food really, but some of these pictures are just too cool not to share. I totally geeked out while walking through the players/employees only part of the stadium that you don’t really get to see in person, just on TV sometimes. The hallways are just as grey and boring-looking as you’d imagine, though with cool posters hanging up every few feet.
The first thing I walked right up to was this amazing tomahawk steak in the far back. I just have a good eye and nose, okay?! Well, they weren’t serving it yet — and it turns out it’s part of the Porsche Grill, where I very, very rarely sit (awesome view of the outfield, pricier seats, buffet included, but I like sitting somewhere else that’s all). But man… see the next pic.
When they finally served it, I snagged a few slices and my goodness the tender melt-in-your-mouth meat just… melted in my mouth. I might actually pay the premium price to snag access to the Porsche Club just for this steak. Wow. SO INSANELY GOOD. Plus, I bet it’d be easier to let my child run loose in the club than in the stands — we took her to 3 games last season, but she was only walking for one of those games (David Wright’s last game) and she was too tired to really wreak havoc as it was a night game.
New paletas and drinks available at Citi Field.
Lots of return favorites and great additions in the above block! Here’s a sneak peek at the non-baseball events coming to the stadium this season, plus some of the giveaway goodies this year…
This year also happens to be the 50th Anniversary of the Miracle Mets of ’69. They’re having a whole weekend dedicated to celebrating that amazing season and team – including an on-field reunion of the team, giveaways that include a pennant, replica jersey, and a replica championship World Series ring!!! I have one from the 2016 season where they celebrated the 1986 World Series Mets team, and it is awesome. Not that I ever wear it, but it is seriously such a fun giveaway item that I almost wish I could go this year! June 28, 29 and 30 for those of you who are interested. They are also making a special announcement on June 27 as to renaming a street for Tom Seaver, which is so incredible.
And now… the most exciting food-related news to come to Citi Field almost ever…
Guys, Emmy Squared is opening at Citi Field. Some of you may recall the burger-tear I went on, or just know how burger-obsessed I can get. Sure it’s a pizza place and the pizza was excellent – slightly spicy, slightly sweet, and truly excellent – but I’m not a pizza expert nor pizza-obsessed. I am, however, kind of sort of but really really into burgers, good ones. I had the Mimi Cheng’s Dumplings collab with Emmy Squared a few years ago and went back many times to eat them again, but had never been to the actual place because I didn’t prioritize going into Brooklyn for this.
Holy.
Gosh.
Why?
I broke rules for this burger. Namely, at a tasting event such as this, you go around and there’s so much food that you really should just eat a bite or two if you really like something, and move on to something else you’ve never had. Nope. I took a bite, then another, and another, and another until the half was gone, juices running down my hands and face, and a crazed look in my eye wondering if I could or should eat another half (I didn’t). But damn, guys. The seat, the seasoning, the pickles, the sauce. If this isn’t possibly my new favorite burger, I don’t know. Of course, I happen to really like pickles and these were front and center in my burger — if you hate pickles or saucy burgers, this might not be for you. But the bread, the pickles, the heavenly beef, all of it combined to make something far greater than its parts. It was just so good, I’m starting to drool a little while thinking about it and wondering how soon I can get my butt out to Citi Field for one of these (not [home] Opening Day, I’ll be across the world in a foreign land that loves baseball more than I do).
Guys, it’s good. And it might usurp Shake Shack as my go-to burger (though I never get SS at the stadium because the lines are absurd and I’m there to watch the game, but I DO get SS near-weekly right now because there’s a location within 15 minutes of my home and I probably won’t be going to Emmy Squared anytime soon anyway…). It’s *that* good.
What are you excited to eat this season? Any bets on how many games I’ll actually make this season — last year we actually got to 3 games, which was 3x as many as I predicted!!
LET’S GO METS!!!

I love when you share all the new food at the stadium! Now I’m torn! So I fell in love with the bash burger last year and was obsessed. But now I have to try this Emmy burger! I’ve had their pizza multiple times but could never find room for a burger. I’ll have to convince my family who I’m bringing on the 7th to share multiple sandwiches with me (also loving Nicoletta’s chicken parmesan). ♥️ LGM!
