On a recent jaunt to Forest Hills, I met up with BFF for a quick dinner at local Nick’s Bistro…
While we browsed the menu, they brought us some housemade hummus to munch on. Pretty good.
Alternating slices of pita to dip in the hummus and…
I opted to start with taramasalata, which I took quite a bit home. This was rich, creamy, and just ‘fishy’ enough — a good start. (I’m obsessed with taramasalata at restaurants ever since I went to Greece/Turkey and enjoyed it so, so much there… always looking for one to blow my mind!)
My main course actually came with a salad, which had bright tomatoes, cucumbers, but was mostly just veggie to be veggie (which I don’t mind). I ate it. It was a salad.
As for my main course: pork souvlaki!!! When done properly, good pork souvlaki is so good: tender, juicy, flavorful, with a crisp exterior and a soft interior. It screams happiness to me.
And my god, this was that happiness. Juicy and oozing porkiness, crisp edges and just perfectly cooked and seasoned so well… I was extremely happy. This plate was huge — I took half home for lunch the next day — and I was very pleased with it still the next day. The tzatziki was creamy richness and complemented the pork perfectly… so good.
I’m happy to have finally tried Nick’s because the food was all very good! I’ll definitely be back to try more stuff and might even drag my mom over there with me.
