Steph came to visit
Sorry, this was months ago
This was our dinner.

IMG_9241.JPG IMG_9243.JPG

Santa Barbara oysters with yuzu sauce

3 omakase
But why only two oysters?
So Steph and I shared.

Oysters were OK
But nothing really special
Still, why only two?

IMG_9245.JPGIMG_9246.JPGIMG_9247.JPG

avocado, cream cheese, salmon, turnip

Very pretty dish
but the texture was too soft
Flavor was one note

IMG_9249.JPG

Amberjack, sea bream, tuna

You serious, bro?
Again, brought only two plates
GIVE US EACH OUR OWN

Charge us more? That’s fine!
Requested one plate for each
Why’d we have to ask??

IMG_9251.JPG

okra, Japanese sweet potatoes

Smoky sweet and charred
Yay! Yummy vegetables!
Steph was so happy.

IMG_9253.JPG

Mushrooms – shiitake and enoki

My favorite dish
Meaty mushrooms make mouths smile.
Earthy, tender, sweet.

IMG_9256.JPG

Steak… with no grill marks, though we saw him grill it!

No trick of lighting
Why is the meat grey? Ugly
Soft, lacking flavor

IMG_9259.JPG

giant prawn

Overcooked, rubb’ry
Sad giant prawn mishandled
Woe is my belly.

IMG_9262.JPG

whole thread fin

Eh. It’s a whole fish.
Fresh, sure, but not amazing.
We ate it all, though.

Obviously meh.
Overall feelings? So so.
Definitely eh.

Not worth the money.
Over 80 dollars each.
Before tax and tip.

Sorry, my dear Steph.
I’ll eat with you anywhere.
But next time… not here.

Shout out to server
He’s fluent in Japanese
Good at his job, too.

Love when Steph visits
Special thanks, Dessert Zombie
Her opinion here.

haha I love this! I think I would go back only to order the grilled veggies and mushrooms. I’ll pass on everything else. And next time I’m back, let’s go for oysters! =)

Two plates for 3 omakase? Weird idea of fair portioning. Maybe they really wanted you and Steph to share and the Zombie to have his own. Ha.
