Pomme Palais – Summer Menu

June 27, 2014 by Feisty Foodie 8 Comments

Somewhat recently, I began working in Midtown, which lends me the opportunity to eat lots of delicious food in a totally new landscape. And if you didn’t already know, it means I write about most of my lunches on Midtown Lunch now – with an eye towards lunches that are under $10. So though I’ve been frequenting Pomme Palais, since a lot of the items go over the $10 mark, it didn’t feel right to try to write about it there…. even after I was invited to the press preview of their summer sandwich menu.

New this time ’round is the roast beef on ciabatta. This is insanely delicious; thinly sliced roast beef piled high to give you a solid mouthful of beef with each bite, whoa. I love the bread – it’s hearty to stand up to the meat, but also bites through easily so you’re not struggling trying to eat a sandwich politely. The tomato, gruyere and horseradish mayo all work well to elevate the sandwich to YUM.

Chicken salad on a croissant is also a good sandwich, though the flaky, buttery croissant gives you a much heavier mouthfeel, almost a little oily at times. The addition of orange and cranberry help lighten it up though!

Interestingly, they also offer a throwback from our childhoods: almond butter, apple slices and a thick jelly on wheat bread. The final result is tasty, but I’m afraid to say that for the price they ask I would rather make this at home 10x before ponying up.

The Jerk chicken caesar wrap fares much better in my mouth: romaine and caesar dressing are given a lift from the jerk chicken, and quite tasty. The chicken is not dry at all, and just works.

And of course there are the beautiful pastries on display for you to ogle and eventually eat. YUM.

But honestly, the roast beef captured my heart – so much so that I grabbed one to go. The picture doesn’t quite show scale, but the thing is HUGE. I ate half before I had to give up and eat the rest later for dinner; it clocks in at $12 for the whole thing, but in my opinion the quality of the meat and other ingredients is well worth the price tag – occasionally. This is not the sandwich to eat on a daily basis.

Overall, I really like Pomme Palais; the sleek interior is a wonderful respite from the midtown offices that surround the area, and they have all sorts of cute little treats for sale inside as well as the lovely sandwiches. Soups, coffee, etc. – and… I will be writing about this more in depth in a post on “what I’m currently obsessing over” but I am completely addicted to their gummy bears (delicious, but $8 a bag) and their chocolate chip cookies are insanely amazing with just the right crisp edge and chewiness. Oh my gosh, I literally go in once a week to buy the cookies since I’ve discovered them. They run $8.25 for a container of 8, but it’s totally worth it and sometimes… if you’re lucky… there are actually 9 cookies in the package. Hehe.

Check it out.

please note that while I attended the tasting as a member of the press, the first time I went into Pomme Palais was on a whim, and I fell in love with the place. I received no monetary compensation to post this, and was not obligated to post whatsoever. be happy I’m sharing a current obsession with you all

Heh, sorry… there need to be more lunch-focused blogs, don’t there? As in, “where to eat lunch in your immediate work area” …

Those are some cute little sandwiches. Roast beef looks really tasty though, and I really love horseradish….even with mayo.

I think the mayo tempers out some of the sharp bitterness, but it’s a really good sandwich. I highly recommend it.

I actually think a bunch of places in Midtown do not know how to make a good sandwich. But that roast beef does look good. Roast beef, in my opinion, is hard to pull off well. Mmm, bloody meat sandwich.
