I’ve been excited for the reopening of BCD Tofu since I first noticed that the first location had closed down. BCD Tofu has been my favorite soondubu spot for a long time now, offering a complex version that boasts a depth in flavor that is unparalleled in all the other places I’ve been (which is about 3 or 4, so not that deep a pool for comparison, but still!). I was even more excited to be invited to the grand opening, so I got to watch a fascinating ribbon cutting ceremony, listen to the president of the company talk, listen to some of the history – it was a great night.
Sadly, since I’ve not been blogging, I never got around to sharing with my dear readers this news nor the lovely food I was served. But I’m going to fix that now!
Spoiler alert: I’ve been back since the grand reopening 2-3x at least. Which means yes, it’s at least as good – maybe even better! – than the old location. Yay!
As soon as Kathy and I sat down, we were served a couple of bites – super crisp fried shrimp that was wrapped in what felt like rice noodles; fried mandoo; skewer of tofu with grape tomatoes – all of which was very tasty and a nice start to the night.
Next up, japchae or glass noodles tossed with veggies and sesame oil. These were very tasty, a great complement to what was to come.
Platters of banchan… at this point, I was wondering how much food they were going to put on our table, considering we were only two people!
LA Kalbi – which was very nicely cooked and really tasty…
The star, the soondubu! which I love and am happy to report tastes just as good as it always has – rich, full of umami flavor, delicious, satisfying, hearty and awesome in cold weather.
The final dish to come out was one I’d seen in the past, spicy pork bulgogi, but hadn’t had much experience with. But oh my gosh!!! this was really, really tasty! Not too spicy at all, tender, juicy, flavorful, just really delicious, where I wanted to keep stuffing it into my mouth long past the point where I was full. Sooooo good. I will definitely be ordering this again… and again… and again!
In any case, as I mentioned, I’ve been back to BCD Tofu multiple times since the reopening and I will continue to go. Love!!!
Please note that I attended this grand re-opening ceremony as a guest of BCD Tofu House. I was not obligated to post about this, nor did I receive monetary compensation to do so.

When you get a good hot bubbling bowl of soondubu, it’s so soul warming. So good!

Right? Today is the perfect weather for it, too.

Hello! I’m taking dance classes near Korea Town and just tried BCD for the first time. Absolutely amazing! By far my favorite Soondobu. We also had the LA Kalbi, which we loved. My SO was very impressed with the toasted rice tea/soup that you end the meal with.

Hi Corinne! It’s so good, isn’t it? I like the tea thing they make with the dolsot too… with the rice crust… yum.
Now I want soondubu!! Or fried chicken. Or, well, both 🙂

BCD seriously hits the spot for me! Even better than a lot of the soondubu I’ve had in Korea! haha. Awesome pictures and post; thanks for sharing! 🙂
