The JHouse Greenwich

March 25, 2013 by Feisty Foodie 11 Comments

I was recently invited to spend a weekend at the fairly-recently-opened JHouse Greenwich and enjoy all the amenities they offer. So I grabbed the bestie and off we went on a quick weekend trip – The JHouse is only 30-45 minutes outside NYC (depending on traffic).

JHouse 01.jpg

The Chocolate Lab makes all their own chocolates, and sent us some bonbons to enjoy in our room. Bestie enjoyed these greatly.

Our first night there, we enjoyed dinner at eleven14.

Lobster salad (special)

Kale salad

Seared duck breast

JHouse 07.jpg

Perfectly cooked, super tender skirt steak with mushroom medley

Brownies and ice cream

Pear tart with chambord gelato.

After stuffing ourselves silly, it was time to head to the room and end the night. The place was packed with people enjoying late dinners, cocktails, the bar was pretty crowded… lively scene, which was surprising in a small town like Greenwich.

The next morning, we woke up and headed back for breakfast.

JHouse 10.jpg

Fresh squeezed orange juice. This early on a Saturday morning, the restaurant was pretty quiet.

JHouse 11.jpg

Ahhh, coffee – fresh roasted. A little oily. Very fragrant.

JHouse 12.jpg

Pastry basket.

JHouse 13.jpg

Bowl of fresh fruit, lightly dressed with honey.

JHouse 14.jpg

Bestie’s eggs and sausage. She liked it.

JHouse 15.jpg

PERFECTLY poached eggs (I didn’t get an inside shot) – smoked salmon benedict, one of my favorite brunch dishes. Really tasty, excellent Hollandaise.

After a tour of the property and a quick stroll down the main shopping strip in Greenwich, bestie and I decided to retire to the hotel room and do something we haven’t done in years together: absolutely nothing. Just hang out, lie in bed and watch TV all day. Yes, we really did that. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel’s completely automated shades, blinds, lights, all operated by a bedside-iPad that we played with until we understood it… it was a great day just spent lounging in bed.

Which means unfortunately, I repeatedly forgot to take pictures of the room made up. So on the last day, we made up the room ourselves – forgive the pictures, the hotel staff made up the room the way normal hotels do, but we did it the way normal people do at home.

Huge TV facing our TV

Our king size bed – see the iPad on the right?

Shots of the room – as I said, we made the bed ourselves and didn’t get it quite the way hotels do. However, that bed was ridiculously comfortable and a great place to hang out all weekend – we had a fantastic time. The staff was super friendly, super accommodating, and super knowledgeable when we asked for recommendations on what to do in the area.

JHouse 23.jpg JHouse 24.jpg

Totally pet friendly – and yes, she jumped into the photograph when she saw what I was doing as she’s apt to do… nosy camera hog 😉 The bathroom boasted a fully automatic toilet/bidet, and a pretty cool dual-shower head… and a TV built into the mirror so I could still watch my Law & Order: SVU marathon while I showered. Crazytown!

JHouse 25.jpg

Really nice wardrobe to hang our stuff in too…

JHouse 17.jpg

Really cool art decorated the entire hotel – I enjoyed the money-art and these cool Lego Wars art pieces as well. I found out that they’re local artists, too – pretty nice. (If you’re interested in learning more, let me know and I’ll post links.)

JHouse 16.jpg

Awesome meeting room that overlooks the wine cellar with its many, many bottles of wine.

Okay – the bottom line, without my silly narrative? The Jhouse Greenwich is a fantastic option for anyone visiting Greenwich for work or play. The restaurant is lovely, the staff is superb, and the chocolate lab perfumes the entire lobby with the tantalizing scent of chocolate all day long. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Greenwich… and I’m looking forward to warmer weather so I can return and sit in the outside bar area to enjoy strong cocktails and the pool.

Please note that this was a press trip, compliments of the hotel/their PR. I was under no obligation to write a review, nor did I receive monetary compensation to do so.

Maybe clash isn’t a good way to put it…maybe it’s more of bringing up the differences of cooking methods of the duck. I like most preparations I think.
