It’s my birthday week, but you’re getting the presents! Yup – I’m having a giveaway a day this week, so come back every day at 12:15p to check what else you can win. Because life is sweet… but it’s even sweeter when you can share it with people you love!
Today’s giveaway is a fantastic New York staple – the bagel. These come from Zabar’s, the gourmet food mart that everyone knows and loves. They’re offering TWO lucky readers an order each of their famous toasting bagels (more details, click here). All you have to do is leave a comment (use your real email address!) with how you like to eat your bagels (toasted, untoasted, what kind of spread or toppings, sandwich style, open face, etc. – just to name a few ways!).
Good luck! Winners will be chosen in a week.
The usual rules apply: prize provided and fulfilled by Zabars.com; open to residents who live in an area that Zabars.com ships to; not open to Feisty Family employees; winners are chosen via Random.org; I did not receive any sort of compensation for this post.

I’m not in NYC but here’s my 2 cents anyway:
Toasted seseme bagel (not cut in half but oven baked till warmed through) then slathered w/ real cream cheese (do ya’ll get Western brand cream cheese there?) then covered w/ good smoked salmon, cracked pepper, slivered red onions and drizzled w/ fresh lemon juice. HEAVEN on earth!!
Cheers!

Never had a real NY bagel. I would probably slice one bagel, toast one slice, cut each half in half, and then apply cream cheese to one toasted part and one untoasted part. That would get me toasted and untoasted with and without cream cheese.
Pending the results of that investigation, I would determine how to best approach future bagels.
Goats says
Toasted with wispread!
Ada says
Awesome! I was born and raised right next to Zabar’s and absolutely love their products. My favorite way to eat a bagel is toasted with smoked whitefish spread(preferably the kind from Zabar’s with the cornichons) and topped with tomato and onion. Best meal ever!

My mom and I have bagel breakfast together every Sunday. She likes sunflower flagels (flat bagels, for those outside Queens), but I always go for an untoasted pumpernickel bagel with seafood salad. Mmmm… fake crab…

Whole wheat with peanut butter, plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese, onion bagel toasted with butter…
Corinne says
Toasted (everything bagel or pumpernickel) with cream cheese, tomatoes, onions and cucumber.

Oh, how I miss NYC bagels! I love an everything toasted with butter or scallion cream cheese. Delicious.
skippymom says
Everything or pumpernickel bagel with roast beef, lettuce, onion, spicy mustard on one side and butter on the other. My Mom used to make me this for lunch everytime I came home to visit. So, so good.
I don’t make them for myself [they don’t taste the same] but an everything toasted with salmon spread, lettuce and onion hits the spot now.
And they DO deliver here. WOOT!
Ruth says
I love a whole wheat everything bagel

My boyfriend laughs at me because I love blueberry bagels with strawberry cream cheese. He says those aren’t *real* bagels and the idea of a flavored cream cheese is terrible to him. But! That’s my story and my story and I’m sticking to it. 🙂
/I also like sesame seed bagels and regular bagels too
