FeistySis, knowing I am going through a rough patch, decided to have a BBQ over Labor Day weekend. Low attendance as my brother couldn’t make it, so it was just her family + our mother and I.
I was put on salad duty… very simple salad. Romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes and carrot shavings.
I also brought over Beer Boor’s homemade tortilla chips and the pico de gallo I’d made for our homemade nachos. FeistyMom and FeistySis could not stop raving over this – both the pico de gallo, which they said was very fresh tasting and light (there’s no jalapenos in there, so no spiciness), and the chips, which they wanted to know how to make. When I explained, they were impressed by how easy it is – but as they don’t have deep fryers, I think Beer Boor may be on fresh tortilla chip duty for a long time to come… haha.
The ubiquitous deviled eggs at every Feisty Family party… delicious as usual.
Since my appetite was super screwy, I didn’t eat that much (though I was snacking aside from this photo, of course!). Pulled pork, grilled chicken wings, pico de gallo, and deviled eggs. Simple but delicious.
Thanks FeistySis for trying to cheer me up!

Damn, this makes me want to buy a deep fryer. But wait, my apt is too small and I’m not fond of furniture smelling like oil.

I’d seriously eat the chips and pulled pork together. Melted cheese is welcome too. 🙂
Nice lookin’ eggs as usual.

Completely missed this post when it came out, but I remember the discussion about the chips. Ah well, when you’re gifted with a deep fryer, it stands to reason that you ought to share the wealth! Ridiculously easy — the only key is timing. I cut the tortillas into eighths, then add 16 triangles at a time into the 375-degree gallon of oil, then time about 2:15 after the tortillas are added to the oil before removing them, shaking off excess oil, and salting. I’d say these are ghetto chips, but they’re much better than that.
