This is another post that’s long overdue. A few years ago, I won tickets to this incredible event benefiting City Meals on Wheels. And this year… I managed to win tickets again! Since this event is long past and you have to wait until next year to attend if you wanted – and they will serve different dishes next year – I’m just going to share pictures, dish names, and maybe point out one or two that really stuck out in my mind.
Jonathan Waxman, Barbuto: Organic chicken hot dog with asparagus slaw
Bill Telepan, Telepan: potato & farmer’s cheese pierogi, scallions, brown butter – I liked this more than I thought I would, as I often have trouble eating pierogis. This wasn’t heavy at all.
Jeremy Culver, Fulton: ruota di pesce spada (wheel of swordfish)
(same)
Strawberry shortcake… not sure from where
Close up
Tony McPhail, Commander’s Palace: creole crawfish gnocchi, grilled Louisiana crawfish, creole cream cheese gnocchi flambeed with Cognac, “mushroom bacon” and crawfish-boil cream
Sylvia’s Restaurant: chicken & rice perlo – seasoned rice, stewed chicken, country sausage
Dan Kluger, ABC Kitchem: salmon tartine on warm garlic-herb toast
Angelo Sosa, Social Eatz: tomato curry soup – yes, we got to meet him, and he chatted with us for a little bit.
Daniel Boulud, Daniel: caramelized sable, caraibe chocolate mousse, dulce de leche cream
Julian Alonzo, Brasserie 8 1/2: Elysian fields lamb belly with pickled ramps, charred lily bulbs
David Burke, David Burke Townhouse: BBQ chicken, corn whipped potatoes
Aaron Sanchez, Centrico: tinga de pollo – chicken hash, chipotle chiles, aromatic spices and tomatoes
YUM.
Michael Paley, Proof: New Jersey sweet corn, smoked aoili, ricotta salata, lime
Scott Roberts, The Salt Lick: brisket slider – burnt brisket ends, brioche bun, apple jiacama slaw, chipotle drizzle
Cedric Vongerichten, Perry St.: rice cracker crusted tuna with sriracha-citrus emulsion – I particularly enjoyed this dish with the contracting textures. I really want to start crusting things in rice crackers!
Not sure where this was from – it’s a shrimp.
Clark Frasier, Arrows: Maine lobster roll, mayo & celery
Mark Gaier, Arrows: fried Winten Point oyster, smoky green pepper relish, bacon
Chef Forgione: buffalo tartare, hottish vinaigrette, red veined sorrel
Jawn Chasteen, The Sea Grill: fish tacos, marinated cabbage & pico de gallo
Michael Gabriel, The Sea Grill: root beer float, espresso ice cream
Scott Conant, Scarpetta: crudo (not sure which fish this is)
Ben Ford, Ford’s Filling Station: skewered lamb meatballs wrapped in lardo
I unfortunately do not have the information for this – it was a spumoni pop with a cherry on top. I had two of these because they were so good, even though I was near bursting by this point.
A faceoff between Smith & Wollensky’s classic prime, dry-aged rib roast…
tender, delicious
vs. Quality Meats’ flatiron steak with blackberries
good, but the classic is still better.
To end the night: a cupcake from Sprinkles.
A fun event, and I was bursting from so much food at the end. Thanks to City Meals on Wheels for hosting such a great event!!!

Sylvia’s Restaurant: chicken & rice perlo – seasoned rice, stewed chicken, country sausage. Looking for a recipe close to the one served in southern churches.
