Momofuku Milk Bar – Cereal Milk Soft Serve

July 21, 2011 by Feisty Foodie 10 Comments

To finish off the night, after a brief visit to Veniero’s, TC and I wandered past Momofuku Milk Bar for some cereal milk soft serve.  Pretty teeny cup for $4.50, right?  Well, I decided to try a bite of his, and …. yeah I love(d) drinking the milk from the bottom of my cereal bowl after I’d eaten all the cereal.  It tasted sweet and better than milk normally does to me.  But half the fun for me apparently was eating the sugary cereal in the first place, because the first thing I thought when I took a spoonful of this was: “Egh! Who ate my cereal?!”  I Tweeted about how we’re eating David Chang’s backwash – I know, logically, that they probably just add sugary cereal to milk and then strain it before making that milk into cereal milk soft serve, but still, that’s how I felt.  I think I’ll pass on this if offered again… just very odd tasting cereal milk without the cereal ever being there.

But honestly, I have to say, the idea is pretty genius.  I’ll give the man his due even when I don’t like him.

Yvo posted about a David Chang shop? She probably has heat stroke.

I haven’t had before so it was interesting to try.

They need backwash from the chocolate cereals. 😛

Some other blogs have mentioned “flavors” of cereal milk. Not sure why the girl thought we were stupid when we asked and she just responded “That IS the flavor: cereal milk.”

I often find Momofuku Milk Bar’s confections too sweet. But that’s just me. I know people who go apeshit over their stuff.

I like the compost cookie but I had it once so long ago, it might not still be as good as my memory.

I have never been to Momofuku Milk Bar, but I have tried making the crack pie recipe that ran in the Los Angeles Times a while back. I guess I will avoid the Cereal Milk Soft Serve when I visit NY in the future!

I tried the crack pie once and it was wayyyyyyy too sweet for me. I mean, if you tried to make it, you probably have a sweet tooth… TC actually ate most of it, maybe he’ll chime in with his thoughts here?

I am the dude with the sweet tooth. 🙂
I thought the cereal milk was okay overall. A nice, creamy, and cool treat to fend off the humid evening. Something different than regular ice cream and definitely worth a try.

However, I’m not really a fan of the compost cookie or the crack pie. They are both sugar bombs in their own rights but too much going on with compost and I’m not a supporter of crack. Once in a while indulgence is fine though but they don’t really hold a special place in my heart or dessert belly. 😛
