Not too many price changes over the years, though a few notable changes – Blue Smoke brought back my chipotle chicken wings!!! 🙂 And they also brought back the chips and fresh salsa at Taqueria el Verano (which isn’t clear through my photos, but they had it the first season and I declared it an excellent value at $3.50, but then it was yoinked from the menu last season). Hooray! Oh, also: Blue Smoke lowered the price of their bologna sandwich, something I complained about last year! 🙂
My first game of this season, a friend wanted Shake Shack. Despite the line being quite long (past the Beers of the World stand that is to the left of Shake Shack), I was ordering within 10 minutes of getting on line, and my food came out pretty fast. Aside from that huge improvement – which the haters will say is because our ballpark isn’t being filled, but I say, read that again, the line was long but it moved faster than I recall!,
I thought this was better than the last few times I’ve had Shake Shack at Citi Field. The burger was cooked properly, not as soggy or buttery (in a bad way) as it was in the past. Not bad! Faster lines and better food, I dig. Note that my friend got a shake, and I saw them pre-made sitting on the counter. Since this was early April, it was fine, but I don’t know how that will work in July…
And of course, David Wright’s first at-bat. Are you new here? I do this at every Mets game I go to. I’ve discovered that using my nifty toy – the dSLR – makes it really hard to capture the picture the way I want, so I have to stop using it for the ballpark. That’s right, I’m carrying two cameras to the park… just so I can get the photo I want. Ergh.
Box Frites, large, with blue cheese. Again, very skimpy with the cheese, and there aren’t as good as they used to be. Boo.

A retry on that photo of David, but still no good. Oh well. Back to P&S for me, for that photo. I’m going to have a scrapbook one day… one day. (I actually have a photo, because of this obsessive behavior, of him swinging at a first pitch of his first at-bat – and yes, he swings at an awful lot of first pitches – and hitting it out of the park. Pretty nifty.)
And then I found out that the menu at the now-three Blue Smokes (I was told there are THREE Blue Smokes now; one at Taste of the City, one on Promenade level (my level), and one on field level, though I don’t know where it is and am not sure I’d be able to find the stand or be allowed to visit!… are all different! So above you saw the photo of the ones at the Taste of the City level, this is the menu for the stand on Promenade level. WHICH HAS FRIED CHICKEN BY THE PIECE.
No corn dogs at this one apparently though.
Given that this is fried chicken at the stadium, but priced similarly to Hill Country… how do you not order a leg and a thigh?
Juicy, tender, moist… yeah, this is good stuff. The only bad thing about having good fried chicken in my ballpark so close to my seats is how much weight I’ll gain from this. I like.
Funny that I rarely order chicken when I go out to eat – but here I ordered lots. I wanted to see if their wings were as good as I remember; still meaty, though slightly less so, and ever so bitty more spicy than I recall. Still good, though, and I still enjoyed it greatly. Not sure if it’ll return to being my go-to as it was the first season (I almost literally ate these every single time I went to the park, which was 15+ times that season).
David’s first at-bat of that game!
And my go-to from the 2010 season: the Mama’s Special Italian Hero! Still yummy and still the same price. Nice!
PINK HELMET CUPS!!! And they have hot fudge (which is more like chocolate syrup). No extra sprinkles though… ahem.
Here is the fried chicken sandwich from Blue Smoke.
Here’s an inside shot. I thought this was a little dry and could have used more of that buttermilk ranch. Not bad, but not good enough for me to want to go back and get another one.
One more picture of David’s first-at bat.
Tickets are really cheap right now, so get them now and eat really well at the stadium! Or you know, just buy tickets and stay home so I don’t have to fight crowds to get to my food. 🙂
These photos are from April 10, April 19, April 24, and May 4, 2011.

I like that the prices didn’t change much, if at all, over three years. That is great. And yay for a quick line at SS.
I am amazed at the fried chicken per piece price – I would gain weight too if I had that at our stadium.
I love that you do this every year. Especially the pics of your beloved. 🙂
I seriously do not want to be around here if they ever [gasp] trade the man.

The likelihood of David Wright being traded anytime soon is incredibly tiny. I would even say none, but I know a lot of players stay with one team their entire career save the very tailend when they still want to play but they are no longer useful to their team, so the team gives the player up to another team. Even that I don’t see happening for David. He’s very much ‘team first’ and I appreciate that, among other things, about him so much.
Currently he’s on the DL, and I wish him a speedy recovery!

No more Disco Frites at Box Frites? I am so over that place.
The fried chicken was tasty though – I think I’ll be hitting that every trip if I haven’t just eaten. Inexpensive to boot!

Double-fist up on burgers and “waist-friendly” fried chicken. NYOM NYOM NYOM.
I wonder if Yanks have fried chicken…maybe not?
Good riddance to the Bologna!

Good to see the price of the lobster roll has stayed the same. Yay! I should start going to ball games with you. So many that i go with don’t like to eat at games. I’m a minority. Eat up!
