Haru Hana

January 13, 2011 by TT 6 Comments

Recently, my Dad was in town for a meeting and invited me out to lunch. It was a nice treat since he doesn’t come into the city that much anymore since he is retired. A while back, we went to Haru Hana, one of the new “J-pubs” in Koreatown, he suggested we go back. It has been especially cold here in NYC, so I was looking forward to trying one of their soups.

We started off with an order of Pork Gyoza(6 pc. for $5). They were tasty, but the filling was pretty forgettable. Everything was mashed/chopped too finely to detect different flavors especially anything resembling pork.

We also got an order of edamame ($3.50). Healthy AND delicious!

Dad and I both decided to try their ramen.

He got the Pork & Vegetable Ramen($8.50). Considering the only thing left in the bowl was the egg, I would have believe he liked it a lot.

I ordered the Soy Sauce Ramen($8.50). I was a little worried that it would be too salty, but luckily it wasn’t. The broth was light and flavorful and had a ton of noodles in it. There was only one or two slices of pork, which was a good thing, considering the meat wasn’t that good. This was a perfect choice for a winter day.

Some chili powder to kick up the spice a bit.

Both orders of ramen also came with sides.

2 pieces of California roll.

Kimchi radish and plain pickled radish.

All in all, it was a great lunch choice. Prices are very reasonable and portions are quite filling. Complimentary green tea was a nice touch considering many places these days try to charge for everything. Was it the best ramen I ever had? Of course not. I am sure it could be one of the best ramens in K-town though. Also of note, they do a pretty healthy lunch business and most of the customers were Asian, so I consider that a very good sign to the authenticity of the place. Thanks Dad for inviting me to lunch.

It seems like a solid lunch. What? California roll?

Except for your Dad’s bowl, TT’s food porn is a vast improvement from way back.

Menchanko Tei still gives you comp. green tea. I guess it depends on the place.

I like the two different versions of the radish. Nice way to show off a vegetable that many of struggle with uses for.

That mayo on the Cali roll is a lil scary, haha. And yeah – great pictures, not just the focus but the overall framing. Especially like the framing on the chili powder pic.

I was thinking the same thing about the chili pic!

Looks like a good lunch TT! I like the free california roll, but not with mayo please!

This reminds me that I haven’t had good ramen in a really long time.
