Martha Stewart Show Taping

I was recently invited to attend the Martha Stewart Show taping to sit in the special Twitter section, where we were encouraged to sit and Tweet during the entire show.  I’m not that big on updating my Twitter – mostly with links to this site – but I figured, what the heck, why not.  All I do is snark anyway… might as well share it with the world.

One of the awesome perks of being in the Twitter section was being given a quick backstage tour before the show started.  You may remember that I attended a taping of her show once long ago.  But this time, I got to go down and walk the set!!!

These pictures were all taken with an iPhone so excuse the graininess.

Sorry, I don’t find mice cute.

IMG_0295

That movie Ratatouille? totally offended my senses, ick.

Up close where Martha was going to make cookies live.

The cookie displays.

GIANT SUGAR COOKIE!!!

Don’t believe me?  Look at my hand compared to the cookie.

More gorgeous cookies!

We actually got to eat cookies as part of the audience.  The sugar cookie was awesome.  Oh, I didn’t mention, this show coincided with the launch of the Cookie App created for iPad.  Or something.  Anyway, the recipe for this cookie can be found here.  It was really good – chewy, not crisp, and quite yummy.  The topping of sugar was pretty and crackly.  Love.

Mexican hot chocolate cookies came with a lot of spice – I know it’s supposed to be cinnamon, but I tasted ginger in there, too.  I’m sure the recipe is out there, but since I didn’t like the cookie as much as I liked the sugar cookie, I didn’t bother looking for it.

Cranberry sandies.

During our tour of the backstage, one of the stagehands offered to take a picture of all of us (the Twitter section).  They also took a picture of us later with Martha, but we were told not to use it ‘commercially’ and I don’t know if that includes posting it on my site, so I’m not going to risk getting Martha mad at me…

But after taking that picture, I did manage to take this picture of Martha playing with her iPad.  Yes, I was that close to her.  Now, I don’t adore her the way some people do, but I do appreciate all that she’s done and I have a tremendous amount of respect for her going to jail and coming out and admitting what she did was a mistake for small peanuts.  She totally owns that, and it makes me respect her so, so much.  She gets mocked constantly and she just shrugs it off – that is just so awesome.  Y’know?  You can hate on her all you want, but you can’t deny that she’s gone through a lot and managed to maintain her grace and dignity… I’m impressed.

Anyway, once again, a very fun experience, I’m glad I was invited and that I went!!!  We didn’t leave empty handed, either – we all received sifters, rolling pins, a copy of the cookie issue of Martha’s magazine, a box of Martha-branded goodie bags (for filling), and one lucky audience member won an iPad.  (It wasn’t me.)

Thanks for inviting me, Martha!!!

I heart Martha, but not in a rabid, crazy way, pretty much for most of the same reasons you do. She was also a way for my mom and me to bond during what could have been emotionally tumultuous years. What a fun trip and experience!! I agree re: Ratatouille. A rat in my kitchen makes me lose my appetite, though the shot of the food critic’s flash of a wonderful memory with a single bite of food melted my heart a little.
