Post-brunch at Wallse found us wandering over to the LES for macarons.  StB’s friend had told her about a place she’d enjoyed that had salted caramel macarons, and StB wanted to buy me a box.

All hail the candy corn macaron… Halloween was the next day, and there was a limited time special flavor of candy corn.

The bag they give you is adorable.

The box is cute too.

Pecan caramel, candy corn, dark chocolate, espresso, gianduja and salted caramel, all lined up…

I didn’t take any cross section photos because I wasn’t really sure I would be posting about these, except now that I’ve had them… I realize I must post about them.  This is a public service announcement.

These are the best macarons I’ve ever eaten.

Sure, I’ve yet to go to Paris, but I’ve eaten a decent number of macarons in my time since I realized I enjoy them.

The first one I bit into was the candy corn one.  Crust cracking gently under my teeth, with a center so light and fluffy – I know it’s probably not available anymore since Halloween has passed – but I swear the center was marshmallow fluff, and so damn amazing… just so wonderful.

Salted caramel did not disappoint, with a tender caramel, a hint of salt, and that perfect crack.  Each flavor was just as good or better than the last, though my favorite would have to be the salted caramel, espresso and dark chocolate (and candy corn).  Not to say the others were bad, just not quite what my palate prefers.  Simply wonderful, lovely, amazing.  The others’ centers were not fluffy, but that right bit of chewy that means you’ve picked wisely, you’ve picked the right macaron, the one you know you want to go home to time and again.

Love, love, love.  Highly recommend.  Please go get yourself a macaron.  Yum.

Thank you, StB, for the excellent birthday present!

Okay, I think I may have to try these because I have not crossed a macaron that I liked.

You know, when I tried them, I thought very highly of the quality and agree with you about that perfect crack but didn’t think wow, these are the best I’ve ever had. But now that I think about it, I can’t think of any better! I’m glad you liked them. =) We have to go to Laduree in Paris now!

You say that as if there isn’t one. I bet someone like Macaron Cafe has thought of it.

No, I say that like there should be selling them like hot cakes, especially right before Turkey Day.
