Tower Diner Reopens!!!

July 6, 2010 by Feisty Foodie 5 Comments

There’s no doubt that I’ve posted about Tower Diner many times – I go there so frequently that though I still take pictures (out of habit), I had to stop posting about it.  BF loves their tuna salad on white toast, I love their Greek salad (delicious in its simplicity), and at one point, we went once a week.

They oblige me when I ask for extra whipped cream on my hot chocolate.

Their disco waffle fries… topped with melty cheese and the

bowl of gravy on the side that you then

douse over the top yourself… yum!

Nacho platters, topped with chili and cheese with all the

salsa, sour cream, guacamole on the side for you to arrange yourself?  Perfect movie night food… (I’ve ordered that delivery before, and they separate everything out so you can do it yourself and nothing gets soggy.)

Giant Belgian waffles topped with fresh berries and whipped cream – no syrup necessary – and

a simple, small house salad for those times when you just aren’t that hungry – no funny looks here! – I really absolutely adore Tower Diner.  Their delivery is super fast – and why wouldn’t it be?  They have an entire fleet of deliverymen on bicycles, pedaling up the hills (these crazy hills, seriously, I hate walking them) and back – the sight of them really is just a part of the neighborhood, on any given day while walking my dog, I see them constantly and they always smile politely or wave.

I’m not posting this because I’ve run out of things to post – not even close, as you’ll see this afternoon – but rather because on May 23rd, a devastating fire took place on the very same block where Tower Diner lives.  (The very scary thing? I actually had plans to meet the BlindBakerNYC there to study for finals.  She arrived maybe 15 minutes after the fire started/fire trucks closed off the street, so we moved our study location.  Imagine if we’d both been a bit earlier?  Eek.)  Tower Diner has been closed since then, cleaning up and reparing all the smoke damage etc.  I’ve missed it dearly, despite travelling some of that time, I have thought about their Greek salad… and BF was really disappointed we couldn’t go the other day after a movie date (which is also a frequent occurrence for us – after a movie date, we head here).

HOWEVER… they reopened just this morning at 8am! and I’m sure have missed their customers as much as we’ve missed them!  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go patronize them if you can… not just to show your support, but well, to show your support!  So many times, businesses can’t reopen after disasters strike, or they reopen to such small returns, that they simply can’t stay open… I don’t want to see that happen to my favorite diner, so please, if you can, make a special visit!  Go there and get something yummy, or just say thank you for reopening… they really fulfill a great need in this community for a consistently yummy diner.

Thanks for reading, happy eating! and thank you to Tower Diner for being awesome!!!

*I actually just looked and I have photos of other Tower Diner dishes I’ve never posted here – a hot meal, spinach dip,… but you get the point.  I love this place.  I want it to keep going.  I need your help for that to happen.  Let’s do it!!!

Big fan of the Tower Diner here! I didn’t realize how good the Greek Salad was until I tried it at FF’s suggestion. I am so happy they are reopened. I won’t eat at the T-Bone (3x I ate there and 3x I had stomach issues) and the others in the area do not compare!

YAY! Weren’t we JUST talking about Tower over the weekend? I’m so glad they’re open again.

And boy, do I agree with Apikoros about T-Bone and stomach issues; they’re so horrible, they can’t even do bad coffee right!

Cool. Never been to Tower or T-Bone.
I don’t do diners too often but Georgia’s Diner is closer for me. They are otay at best but very reasonable priced meals.

That waffle looks good!! *drizzle chocolate or nutella on it

After I finish my shift at work, I read everyones articles about the diner. I love the feedback and I want to thank you for your kind words. We have been serving good food for 18 years and the fire was devastating but our family is back and stronger than ever. Spread the word and thanks again.
