Peru: Trotamundos Cafe

June 18, 2010 by Feisty Foodie 5 Comments

As mentioned, I recently took a trip to Peru, visiting the Amazon area, Cusco, and Machu Picchu/Aguas Calientes… follow along as I show you everything I ate on my amazing trip!

After lunch, we wandered around for a bit, taking pictures of whatever we walked by that looked remotely interesting, HBBF wanted to check out one of the cafes that surrounds Plaza Armas with tables on balconies overlooking the Plaza.  After a bit of searching for the entrance, we bustled into Trotamundos Cafe.

Interesting artwork adorned the walls, including this piece of a naked woman playing the piano.  What made it interesting, however, was the thong tanline that doesn’t appear to be visible in this photograph of it…

We mostly ordered hot drinks – it had gotten remarkably chilly when night fell – and I didn’t bother taking pictures of HB’s tea with lemon/honey, HBBF’s leche con cafe (more milk than coffee) nor my cafe con leche (your standard coffee with milk, though I note here that the milk in both cases was heated, something I found amusing, since I usually use milk/cream to regulate the temperature of my coffee).  However, BF ordered a hot chocolate with milk and marshmallows, which was so cute, I had to take a picture.  Look at the colored marshmallows! which turned out to be flavored – green was pistachio, and the pink ones you can’t see are strawberry.  He and I had fun digging them out and tasting bits of each to see what flavor.  Nommy fun!

BF had also wanted a crepe earlier, so he ordered a chocolate one and got this.  Interesting.   It was chewy, slightly thicker than I expect a crepe to be, and completely smothered in chocolate, which suffered the same suggested hint of spice that the chocolate dipping sauce for the liege waffle at Granja Heidi had.  Though it wasn’t as strong, it was still there, and I was amused to note that I just couldn’t appreciate that extra note of flavor.

Unfortunately, the balcony tables were all taken when we arrived, so we contented ourselves sitting near the open doors to the balcony, which was still nice – especially given the roaring fireplace as we sat there, enjoying the occasional breeze and the people from the balcony walking back and forth.

Overall… a cute place to relax and grab a hot drink (there’s a full bar, too, though we opted out of alcohol since at higher altitude, alcohol affects you more quickly), and I saw some yummy looking snacks go by – supposedly excellent fries come from this place as well.  Prices weren’t bad and the language barrier was easily bridged.
recommended for light snacks and drinks
