Of course I’ve posted about Ramen Setagaya in the past – it is my favorite ramen place! – but recently revisited… mmm, cold weather is great for ramen.
I opted to get a set dinner, so I started off with pork gyoza…
Which were juicy and tasty, but could have been fried a lil more properly to attain a good crust and a bit more pillowy softness. Or, as HB said, “delicate and soft like the inner thighs of a lady?” to which I had to respond, no, not at all.
And of course the shio ramen, which was, as usual, wonderful, delicious, delicately flavored and perfect on the very chilly night. I love it. I would eat this every night of winter if I could. Mmm, shio ramen. My best friend.
Yvo says: Ramen Setagaya continues to be my favorite ramen place, because I love shio ramen. I think they have the best shio ramen in the city of all the places I’ve been. If you don’t like shio ramen, then this place probably isn’t for you… but I really do like them. Prices aren’t bad, either.

Hi Feisty Bitch, nice work, but your title: “Opinionated food critic”…. hmmmmmmmm. Aren’t ALL CRITICS opinionated? Does being an opinionated food critic make you a standout in a crowd of plain vanilla food critics without their own viewpoint or O(pi)NION. I’m one hungry bitch.

I like this place too. But the BF banned it from his list because they charged us gratuity and didn’t tell us. They also took our change from the bill. So triple tip! I, of course, blame myself for not looking at the bill, and not speaking up about my change.

My favorite too! But I’ve noticed that the pork has gone down in quality… no longer as moist and tender, with more strips/chunks of fat as opposed to a nice balance. I’ve found myself going back to Minca more and more to have their garlic-powered sio ramen (and the amazing fatty pork that comes with it). Setagaya, though, still is a winner 🙂

Is it weird that I find strips of fat to be a plus? I like the change in texture of the meat. Love love love Setagaya, replaced Sapporo as my favorite in NYC.
