Paris Sandwich – New Combo

February 26, 2010 by Feisty Foodie 8 Comments

I recently went back to Paris to grab lunch and discovered, happily, a $5 combo they now offer.  $5 gets you a green tea waffle, a coffee or tea (I think it’s milk-tea or the Asian coffee thing, which is great), and a smaller banh mi, chosen from the same selection.

The green tea waffle has a very subtle green tea flavor, but has some crisp, chewy parts that are great, and other parts that fall flat.  Overall, not bad for a green tea waffle (these usually are $1 by themselves).  It’s a slightly sweet treat to go with your meal.  Not bad.

I went with my usual order of the Paris special.  Honestly…

Do you see a size difference from the regular banh mi?  Maybe it’s a little smaller?  They didn’t cut it in half, which didn’t bother me (it must not have, since I didn’t notice until just now).

I have to say, for $5, it’s a pretty completely rounded out combo deal.  $4 for the banh mi, regular size, but this injects a little variety into your meal and gives you a good feel for everything.  Totally worth it.  (And yes, it’s the same bread, but smaller.  Still perfectly crisp, tender bread.  Mmm.)

Yvo says: You know I love Paris banh mi the best in NYC, so this deal is a no brainer for me.  When I’m not in the mood for just banh mi, I’d totally go for this again… although sometimes, I just want a huge banh mi, a bottle of water, and the sunshine…

Green tea waffle?! Your case for Paris becomes more convincing every time you mention it. Once this week of eating in is over, I’m there.

Whoops, I didn’t really explain “green tea waffle” – it’s really a basic waffle recipe that has green tea matcha powder added to it. Ideally, it would be slightly bitter from the green tea powder, slightly sweet from the waffle recipe, but this doesn’t have too much of the bitterness coming through. Still tasty though.

I had the #1 Paris Special spicy at Paris last Sunday. It was a good sandwich. I like their baguette. It’s not as big as Banh Mi Saigon’s banh mi but it is flavorful and a decent portion for $4.

I need to go back for their combo deal or at least the green tea waffle. The waffle is only $1 on the menu.

And a perk is there are sitdown areas for you to finish the meal rather than eating on the street. They also sell dayoff baguette 3 for 1.25!
