Lunar new year (and yes, Valentine’s day) found me at my sister’s house with my awesome brother-in-law cooking a feast of all cultures. We didn’t stick to traditional dishes but that’s okay; I just want to eat good food – and if I don’t have to cook, even better! – and bro-in-law totally delivered and then some. The above was the first platter to come out of the kitchen: grilled chili lime shrimp with mango salsa (separate photo, but you can sort of see it in the bottom right), and plantains. Like I said: all over the cultural map. I love it!
Cutest moment of the night?
My lil nephew was climbing on the furniture, so I said loudly in Cantonese (my mother speaks to the nephews in Cantonese, so they can learn a little bit as they grow up), “Where are you climbing to?!”
That little booger stopped in his tracks, squeezed his eyes shut tight and shook his head slowly from left to right, and said really loudly (in his little kid voice), “I. Don’t. Understand. What. You. Say!!!”
I was crying from laughing so hard.
I love that lil booger. <3
