I am the eternal optimist; bright, sunny, happy, cheery, the girl you want to talk to because she will cheer you on. “My glass is always full, except when I take a sip!” I was recently heard crowing loudly.
I am a happy person. I talk about life going my way and making your own choices – I fully believe that you make your own choices in life! – but my life hasn’t always been this charmed. “I always get my way,” I smile and tell people. I’m only half-serious. I strive to always get my (reasonable) way. I go out and make things happen for myself. I’ve had my share of crap and bad things in my life, and now is the time to enjoy and live my life, whatever way I can, to the fullest.
But sometimes, sometimes, my happy bubbly self slips a little, and I remind myself that “What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.” I haven’t lived through all the sh*t that I have to let it get to me now. I haven’t gone through what I have to only give up now. Sometimes, I have to make choices that hurt now, but in the end, I will be a better, stronger person for it. I can’t say I like it initially, but I need to keep my focus, and keep my eye on the end goal.
Today was one of those days.
(Marginally amusing note: today was my first French class in 9 years. I am taking French 2. My professor seemed agitated when she asked how long it had been for everyone, and I promptly responded 9 years. She asked me to see her after class. When I approached her, she said that I could stay, because during class – a review of French 1 – I’d appeared to be more engaged and in tune with what was going on than many of the other students, some of whom had just completed French 1 last semester. I happen to have a fair grasp of languages quickly, so this will work in my favor. But now, to bust my ass, because I’ve never been more than a B student in French (due to laziness)… maybe I can get an A this semester?)

how many people do you think actually look at the back of their metrocard?
T.C. says
I have. It’s the same quote as Yvo’s metrocard.
Good luck with French 2, Miss A student.
