New Year’s Eve 2009

February 1, 2010 by Feisty Foodie 3 Comments

New Year’s Eve 09 was a different sort for me.  BB took over from HB the party duties, and while I always have a good time with my friends, something was different that day.  I just didn’t feel like going to a party with other people and all that.  I wanted to stay in and snuggle on the couch, watch the ball drop – actually, I wanted to watch Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Netflix!), pig out, and just enjoy a quiet night in.  This year marked the 10th year since I first went out for NYE instead of staying in with my family (1999).  In fact, coincidentally, the first NYE I missed with my parents, my father died the following Halloween.  I don’t link the two, but it is a fact of which I am aware.

In any case, BF was pretty surprised that I didn’t want to go to my friend’s party.  For the record, I will state that it was MY idea not to attend, not his.  He was ready to drive to Brooklyn, but I made the final decision to stay in.  You know when you really are just NOT in the mood to socialize?  I usually go out anyway, and the mood fades, but today, I didn’t want it to.  I wanted to wallow in it.  I told him to grab sweatpants and head over to me, and we could go get munchies together before settling in for the night.

Of course, the BEST BOYFRIEND IN THE WORLD earns his title for a reason, right?  Instead of coming by me, then going back out, grabbing snacks and coming to me again, he swung by the supermarket and picked up everything on his own – without me even giving him a list.  Above you can see in my brand new Crate & Barrel triple-server is salsa, hummus and bagel chips.  You can also see the bottom of the bowl of baby carrots I put out.  He also picked up Tostitos and – this made my heart swell up with joy – Cheez Doodles.  You might think “So what, it’s Cheez Doodles!” but I love Cheez Doodles.  I eat a lot of Cheetos because I can never find Cheez Doodles (they seem to be becoming less and less common, especially small bags)… and he remembered that I like the Wise brand, not the Cheetos brand (I will eat Cheetos now, but I prefer Wise).  AWESOME.

Ahem.

Of course, we weren’t going to eat just snacks (although in this picture you can see I picked him up some discount/marked-down Christmas candy – Nerds-rope! – from CVS, half price, hehe).  So I popped in two Dr. Oetker’s pizzas that I paid for (I mention that only because the link leads you to a review where I received the pizzas for free) – one mozzarella for him (you see he tore into it before I even took a picture) and one generosa which translates loosely to “supreme” (okay that’s a lie, I don’t know what it translates to – generous? – but you get my meaning).

I’d been a little disappointed with the funghi (mushroom) one last time as it was too ‘wet’ and the thin crust didn’t hold up well, but this one was awesome!  Tons of stuff – onions, peppers, pepperoni, lots of flavor… I really liked it.  At $5 and change, it really wasn’t a bad price either.  Totally love it.  Totally bought another one to stock in the fridge for those nights when I just can’t cook.  Love, love, love.  BF and I have been recommending this brand left and right to our friends (mostly his because mine don’t seem to like/eat frozen pizza?).  But yes.

Pizza, munchies, a good DVD or three, and a quiet night at home?  Yes, please!  I had an excellent new year’s eve, and it was the perfect way to kick off what’s so far been a perfect year.

WIN.

Hope you had a lovely NYE as well!  Happy eating!!!

I know where your coming from, their are times when I may have future plans w/ friends but then when the time comes I just don’t feel like socializing. One New Year’s Eve, I rented all 3 Godfather movies, bought all our favorite foods and munchies and it was the best night ever!!!
