I pass by Nick’s (two posts) every week when I pick up my CSA share. I’ve been meaning and wanting to go pick up a pie on my way back, but juggling my shares – and having so much food after that – generally precludes picking up a pie to also carry back. This week was different though; pick up took a lot longer than I’d anticipated and I was starving. I figured at least this way, as soon as I got home, I’d be able to eat.
This isn’t Nick’s fault, but my pizza did wind up being cold or a lot colder than hot by the time I ate it. Oh well.
I ordered meatball, expecting lots of little meatballs scattered around, but instead got this. Hmm, interesting. At first I thought it was eggplant, but no. Look again. And then I realized I never ordered meatball pizza before…
Upskirt!
Despite not being able to eat it until it was near-cold, I found the crust still crisp and delicious. The meatballs were actually quite yummy, too – I guess they make giant meatballs, then slice them into funky rounds? Or do they make meatball tubes (like a meatloaf?) and slice from that? I don’t know, but it works and really is delicious, albeit a bit funny looking.
Yvo says: I admit I’m not a big pizza person – I smell it and think “God, I want that,” but rarely get it because pizza seems to often disappoint me (truthfully, you can smell pizza on pretty much every other block in NYC, so it isn’t surprising that much of it sucks). I don’t have pizza nights like many people do – once a week or so, getting a pie at home and watching a movie – but I do enjoy a good slice here and there. Nick’s definitely has emerged as the hands down winner for pizza in my area (even though there is no delivery, so I have to go get it, and it’s not the closest pizzeria by a long shot…). I’ll keep going here for my pizzas!
