CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Essentially, one purchases a ‘share’ in a local farm – much like the stock market, one then has a vested interest in seeing the farm succeed. Dividends/pay outs come in the form of produce – vegetables and sometimes fruit. Different farms do things differently; my farm happens to be also organic, and I pick up my box each week – Tuesdays for me – from a local location. Join me on this journey – my inaugural season with a CSA – as I explore the various vegetables I receive and what I can do with them to turn them into delicious happiness…
For more information on CSAs, click here. To find a CSA local to you, you can click here or for one in NYC, visit JustFood.org. I found mine by typing “Forest Hills CSA” into Google – my neighborhood name + the word CSA, and I’m sure that would work for you as well. Good luck and enjoy the fruits of your labors… har, har.
Admittedly, Week #9 wasn’t exactly one of my strong points…
The green beans, broccoli and onions were made into a bento (and then some).
During my stay-cation, I’d intended to go on a picnic by myself in the park with the dog and a nice bottle of wine, but Mother Nature had other ideas and stormed, so I stayed in, popped in a DVD and had a picnic for myself in my living room. Bliss. Pesto chicken salad in the pita pocket, corn chips, red cherries, and a salad with some grape tomatoes. Delicious!
Since I hadn’t gotten any zucchini this week, I used the summer squash (which I’m loving!) and diced up the cucumbers to sautee quickly in a pan with garlic. Topped it with a sunny side up fried egg, and amazingly delicious all over again 🙂 (sorry for not wiping up that lil swipe of sauce on the bottom right, gosh it looks nasty, haha)
And one night I couldn’t think what to eat, so I ordered a pizza and stuck some salad on the side. And it was good 😉
As the CSA goes on, I find myself repeating a lot of the same dishes with certain vegetables because I like it so much! I’m not sure I should continue with these posts… what do you think???
Happy eating~!

Please keep going! I don't see repition too much that I am bored and that first pic' – perfection on a plate – too pretty and yummy looking 🙂 And as fall gets here you will see a change in your veggies anyway – it's coming. [I want to see what you do with the pumpkins you get heehee]

Yvo, I was really hoping for some details on that pizza. In this photo and in the one on Feisty Bento, it looks like it is topped with little rounds of rye bread. What is it really?

Top anything with an egg and I am sold! Good work Yvo!

Okay, I second what Skippy Mom said and like Aimee, this curious mind wants to know more about that pizza.

This sultry weather is luring me to dine al fresco solo with a glass of wine and a slice of your delicious pizza. 🙂
