Mobile Fried Chicken

A very long time ago, I actually wrote the first Midtown Lunch does Downtown Lunch installment about this place – Mobile Fried Chicken.  It was good, but not the greatest, and recently everyone kept talking about fried chicken around me and I just wanted it but didn’t want to walk to Popeye’s (which has, in my opinion, the best fast food chain fried chicken that is available to me in NYC, it doesn’t hurt that I like their sides quite a bit too) on Fulton Street.

So I went to Mobile Fried Chicken and ordered 3 wings w/fries.  It also came with a roll but I don’t know why – it’s a plain hamburger bun type deal, like from the supermarket.  I’m not complaining though, I guess if I was more industrious I could pull all the meat off my chicken and make a sandwich of some sort?  (The roll comes with everything I’ve ever gotten here.)  Anyway, for $3.75, this isn’t a bad snack for the big-big eaters amongst us, and for the smaller appetites, this is a great little meal.  Per usual, the chicken was fried well, very crispy, and moist… though lacking seasoning.  I think I’ll bring BBQ or hot sauce (or ask them for some!) next time… the fries are super crispy and rival McDonald’s fries (when they were good) in terms of texture – crispy outside with a fluffy mealy inside – though they also lacked seasoning.

Yvo says: Despite the lack of seasoning, the food is cheaply priced, fresh, and filling.  And seriously you can fix the seasoning problem easily.  It’s been around for years so I’m sure the lack of seasoning doesn’t deter anyone else – hell, maybe they prefer it so they can add their own.  I don’t find it a problem and will continue to go here for my lunchtime-fried-chicken-cravings.
