Once again, before catching a movie (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, this time), BF and I wandered into Cheeburger Cheeburger – it’s conveniently located a short distance from the theater, so we were able to eat and still wait on line for the movie (to get good seats – I’m really picky – um, is that a surprise to anyone? – and hate paying $12 for a movie to sit in a crappy seat; sorry but no).
My (smaller) sized milkshake, brownie batter. BF liked this a lot, and I thought it was great because the chocolate flavor doesn’t overwhelm or overpower. While yes, it’s ice cream, it wasn’t particularly overly sweet like so many places make their milkshake. One thing that I didn’t like, which may not bother you, is that they appeared to have overblended my shake. Very few chunks of brownie (which I know is in there! since I had crumbs!), and parts of it melted more quickly than I like. I like my shakes a lil bit thicker, but some people like them soupy, so that’s personal preference.
For some reason, BF wanted a grilled cheese sandwich, which, surprisingly, was on the menu. He was eating it and deemed it very greasy, oily, and soggy. He said “It’s like they put on extra butter…” which amused me – and this further amused me when I asked, “Oh, ummm, do you know my grilled cheese sandwiches?” and he looked at me, his eyes opening wide and said, “Are you KIDDING me? The most f*cking amazing grilled cheese sandwiches in the WORLD?” which threw me for a loop… I haven’t made him a grilled cheese sandwich in probably two years. Anyway, so I said “Um, do you know what the secret ingredient is?”
“Yes… butter.”
“But you just said the butter made this grilled cheese bad.”
“Cuz it’s soggy.”
Haha… yes, I lay the butter on thick on my grilled cheese sandwiches (for him; mine are a lot lighter on butter), and toast it nice and slow, crisping up the bread to high extremes. Mmm. So I tried a tiny bite of this grilled cheese sandwich and almost gagged from how oily it was. Really soft, and really just… not good. It’s nice that you can choose two cheeses to put on the sandwich, though; but both BF and I agreed that we would not be returning for this anytime soon.
I wasn’t that hungry and just needed something to nosh on, so I chose chicken fingers (I wanted to pick a salad, but BF glared at me and said “Salad? At Cheeburger Cheeburger?!” and… well… fine!). The chicken fingers were incredibly standard fare – nearby Tower Diner & they might have the same frozen chicken finger supplier! – which means they were tasty enough, and even juicy despite being white meat – but nothing special. I mean, they satisfy the chicken finger craving. I wasn’t a fan of the honey mustard, though, finding it a bit too mustardy and tangy for my tastes – not that I want it overly sweet, but I like a good balance, and this wasn’t quite it. (The other options were ranch and bbq.)
(And while we were waiting, I saw someone’s salad go by which looked so damn good I really regretted not getting a salad. They let you choose from a large list of toppings! Just like their burgers!)
Though I reminded BF that we hadn’t liked the french fries last time, he said, “I know, but I like potato with my meal,” which made me giggle. I’m glad he chose this, though, as the fries have significantly improved since our last visit. Slightly thinner, but that makes all the difference as these are properly fried, crispy, and seasoned well. The onion rings were, once again, a delight to eat for those who don’t want batter/breading/the thick stuff. Real onions. Yum!!!
Yvo says: I’m not going to claim this is gourmet anything, but considering what we got (he also got a soda), our bill coming to $25 (before tip) isn’t a bad deal at all. It’s literally a half a block from the movie theater, and the food is definitely passably decent, even good for what it is. I like it… oh and they deliver now! So if you want to stay in and do movie night, you totally can and still enjoy Cheeburger Cheeburger, yum! I give it a go.

Hey Hey! First, I gotta go with BF on this, but one step further— Chicken Fingers and/or Grilled Cheese at Cheeburger Cheeburger? Go for the BURGER, lol. It's like going to Red Lobster and getting the steak. (That comment was wrong on many levels!) My wife always gets the turkey burger and that's good too. Second, near the Midway, go for Frankie and Joey's, the pizza place next door. It doesn't look like much but the Grandma Slices are great, and the dishes even better. Especially the Veal Parm.

Are you kidding me? cheeburger tastes like glorified frozen TGIF food, and the toppings are horrible, fries and wimpy sagging. I gotta admit, it used to be good, I used to be addicted. But, Now, its franchise sinkhole. (Guess, thats why, theyre growing sooooo slow, one of the smallest in USA. Five Guys, simple but expanded super fast, and never lost its base integrity.
Now, theyre gonna be at Yankee, nobody;s gonna wait 40 minutes for a fresh cooked burger!!! So, like JFK they probably will precook a dozen or so and heat up. (yeah, the Mgr told me that at jfk).Forest Hills is like BJ’s wholesale, with an organic beef ( the ONLY thing they cant change)lol ….whats next RC Cola haha . Save Your Money ……
