I recently went back to Boon Chu for dinner with Esther of Ambitious Delicious(ness), whom you may remember from this post. Exciting news we had to discuss, but you’ll find out about that later. Eventually. We’ll see. 😉
It was Esther’s first time to Boon Chu, but we both wanted to eat new things, so we kind of randomly picked. The above is the duck salad, which was good flavor-wise, but the duck was more like duck jerky, which disappointed me quite a bit. (I recently had duck salad, a similar dish with more ingredients but similar in flavor profile, at Thai Pot, and this doesn’t hold a candle to Thai Pot’s. Thai Pot’s had pineapple and loads of shredded duck, and was just freakin’ awesome, I highly recommend it to anyone who lives in the area.)
Pad see ew, which was pretty tasty, though it isn’t my favorite Thai dish (I much prefer the Cantonese noodle dish that is similar but slightly different, saucier). Mmm, lots of veggies in this version though!
This last dish was an eggplant curry dish, which turned out to be too spicy for me, so I only had a bite or two (plus the coconut milk started irritating me). Esther seemed to really like it though, so I assume it was good! Actually I forgot to ask her what she thought of the place, oops.
We were pretty busy gabbing away so I kind of forgot how much the bill was and totally forgot to ask her if she liked the food. But it was a positive experience and I will definitely be going back more often for food – I’ve been ordering take out lately and at the very least, I should eat GOOD takeout, right?!
Yvo says: Maintains its highly recommended status. I will be back sooner than later for more food! Pretty inexpensive too, looking at the original review.

You love those Cantonese noodles too? With the beef, veggies and a sauce that is almost gravy like? I have a tag devoted to that dished, which I happily named "My Noodles" Hahaa! Aww man, now I'm craving some.
"See Ew" in my language means soy sauce. So it looks like someone decided to mix the Cantonese noodle dish (with soy sauce, beef and onions) with the dish mentioned above. lol
If you ever come up and visit Toronto, give me a shout and I'll bring you to the best place for that dish. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Ugh.

I thought the spicy eggplant was really good! The rest of the food was ok. I have to check out Thai Pot soon 🙂
If I recall correctly, the total came out to $28 or so!

This all looks good, but I am going for the second dish. mmmm – I have to find a place around here that serves this. [yah, right!]
The duck looks like bacon – that's too bad because it is a pretty salad otherwise.
