Pomodoro Sandwich House

Continuing my stalking of Downtown Lunch (ok, sometimes I find places on my own, but I do go to the places he likes quite often as well), I decided to hit up Pomodoro Sandwich House.  He said it was an OK replacement for Rosario’s, but… well, you’ll see.

The menu! and for some reason, I was like “It’s too hot for soup” so I got a half sandwich and a bag of chips.  A bag of chips!  Am I an idiot, or what?  Don’t answer that… I already know.

That day’s special – roast beef, Russian dressing, greens, roasted peppers, except I upgraded to foccacia.

Looks good.

The 1/2 sandwich is about the same size as my BlackBerry.

Tastes pretty good, actually.  I was pleased with my choice, though Rosario’s replacement it is not.

I happened to flip over my sandwich at some point and realized that the bread wasn’t just some weird sponge lookin’ thing.  Haha I thought the foccacia had looked a little odd.

So, okay, it was pretty damn good, and the workers were really friendly – a woman that I think was the owner asked me how far away I worked, when I told her down by South Ferry, she expressed surprise that I’d walked so far.  I was like, “Well, it’s a nice day,” but she smiled – I think she knew what was up.  She told me next time I should get a salad because they have special prices for that, too, with a 1/2 sandwichwhich is pretty cool.  But really?  When I got up to bus my area, I noticed that every single person in there had soup.  It was like, close to 80 degrees that day and still everyone had soup.  I am still kicking myself for not getting soup.  I will be back soon to try the soup – I guess the name of the place is misleading; sure the sandwiches all sound great, but the soup must be where it’s at.

Yvo says: Pretty good stuff, I will definitely be back for soup on a chillier day (with the weather up and down and up and down, … I’m sure it’ll be sooner than not).  The prices seem reasonable and I really like that every sandwich can be had as a half sandwich.  Yum.  It’s a small place but there’s definitely seating and though I went at prime lunchtime, it wasn’t packed, which is good for me, not so good for them.

For some reason, I have a hard time wrapping my mind around soup for lunch. Potato chips, fries, raw veggies = lunch for me. Soup = start of dinner.
