The final stretch, home plate is in sight and I’m closing in, head first dive at the plate… haha. (You can take that two ways!)
It’s over.
The Meat Hiatus (credit to Blondie of Blondie & Brownie for the name) is over, finally, finally over.
41 days of not eating meat, the first 20 eating fish and the last 21 of those flat out not eating any animal flesh.
I did it.
A self-proclaimed meat-a-holic, who couldn’t eat meals out without having meat in them (“Why should I pay for a meal that contains no meat?!”), who wasn’t full after eating meals with no meat… has gone through 41 days of not eating meat.
The final 6 days:
Saturday, 4/4/09 – Meatless Day 36
breakfast: spinach/artichoke dip with chips (and a run)
lunch: Belgian frites with mayo, blue cheese, chipotle ketchup
dinner: Greek yogurt with honey
Sunday, 4/5/09 – Meatless Day 37
lunch: spinach smashed potatoes, Cheez Doodles (I’m blaming the BF)
dinner: green beans; waffle fries (and a run)
To be honest, the next morning I weighed myself – as I usually do – and was surprised to find the numbers dipping a little lower. When I was writing in what I’d eaten on Sunday, I realized – and updated my Facebook status to reflect this – that I hadn’t eaten much on Sunday. “Yet another stupid thought: no wonder I’m losing weight, I haven’t been eating anything! Oops.” It was odd because all Sunday, I thought I’d eaten a lot so I held back from eating anything else. Strange, yes?
Monday, 4/6/09 – Meatless Day 38
breakfast: Greek yogurt with honey
lunch: bento #323
dinner: bento#324; Rolos!
I went home after class so hungry but forced myself to realize that eating at 11pm is not a good idea.
Tuesday, 4/7/09 – Meatless Day 39
breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with shredded carrots, 3 cheese blend (mozz, jack, and cheddar), topped with salsa, laid out on top of a blistered corn tortilla. YUM.
lunch: bento#325; vegetable soup with a bialy & butter
dinner: an orange (and an aerobics class); cucumber sticks with luscious lemon hummus; a small bit of Cheez Doodles…
Wednesday, 4/8/09 – Meatless Day 40
breakfast: everything bagel with veggie cream cheese $1.25 (yes a deal but they used to be 80c so I was annoyed!); caramel hot chocolate (Swiss Miss)
this is only half of the bagel
lunch: Rolos (and a run)
dinner: salad with honey mustard; eggplant parmesan; corn niblets; red cabbage.
Mmm… Rolos.
Thursday, 4/9/09 – Meatless Day 41
This is the end. The end. The end, my friend…
breakfast: roll with cup of green tea
lunch: bento #326
dinner: spaghetti with sauce & loads of cheese; chocolate covered peanut butter filled pretzels
By the time you read this, I’ll have eaten my first bites of meat post-hiatus. I’ll also be on an airplane, headed for Las Vegas, where I will spend the weekend gorging myself on delicious meat (and other assorted foods) – which I will certainly post about, …eventually. Next week is spring break! and though I don’t plan on going anywhere, I am taking advantage of not having class to take off from work and just enjoy myself, relax… and as such, I won’t be posting any restaurant reviews or recipes. Instead, it will be Press Week! meaning I will post about products I’ve had the good fortune to try, free of charge, and random tidbits that have been emailed to me in the past few months (I’ve been neglecting things… oops!).
