Yes, that is my name plate… and my real last name… but who cares about that! Look at the cupcakes!
For Blondie & Brownie’s recent blogaversary (they’re 1!), they invited a specially selected group of people (yes, I was included!) to Bamboo 52 to celebrate. Not one to show up to a party empty-handed, I headed over to my local Crumbs (Wall Street) to pick up some cupcakes, even though recently Blondie remarked they have been slipping in quality lately. I have to say that the Wall Street location is one of the newer ones in NYC and I’ve never had any problems with their cupcakes (besides with the prices). What I like here are the “special” ones, the ones the other bakeries don’t make – they don’t make the best red velvet cupcake I’ve ever eaten, but they make really fantastic specialty cupcakes!
Top, left to right: chocolate covered strawberry; brownie (of course! too corny? they didn’t have a blondie cupcake unfortunately); red velvet
Bottom, left to right: grasshopper; caramel chew/snickers; cappucino
Of course, I was most interested in the grasshopper cupcake, the chocolate mint one, ever since I’d read about it also on Blondie & Brownie’s site way back when. (I KNOW, it’s from OCTOBER, but I don’t eat sweets that often, ok?! Stop judging me!) Dude, look at their pictures. Freaking. Amazing.
When I arrived at the party, I didn’t know how to phrase my request, so finally, I blurted out, probably much to everyone’s amusement (or annoyance, depending on the kind of person they are or how well they knew me), “Umm… I don’t care what you do with the rest of the cupcakes… I just REALLY want to try the Grasshopper!!!” Haha. I snagged a knife from the server and one of B&B (I don’t really remember because I was staring at the cupcake so hard) cut me 1/4th. Mmm. It was good. All was right in the world; the cake as moist and I was happy. I didn’t detect the middle creamy chocolate, but it was dark in there and I’d already begun drinking, so.
One thing to note: Blondie (or Brownie?) remarked that these cupcakes didn’t seem to have gone down in quality as much as the one in Midtown she’d been to. I don’t know if that was luck, or the Wall Street one has the better baker, or what. But these cupcakes were moist and yummy, so I was happy… as were the other participants, I think! 🙂
I’ve been going to Crumbs for at least a year I’d say, and my boyfriend likes their cupcakes a lot too. (He can actually eat an Artie Lange cupcake in addition to a full meal; I still don’t understand why he’s not a blimp.) The above is a shot of a Red Velvet and another Cappucino cupcake… I’ve tried many varieties from Crumbs, and haven’t found one yet that I really hated. (Though their Red Velvet is probably low on my list that I’ve tried from there.)
Happy first blogaversary to Blondie & Brownie! Here’s to many more!!!

I’m adding crumbs to my list of carb cycles next… holy crap that looks awesome, and would save me the trouble of having to find different sources of carbs 🙂

I actually laughed out loud at:
"I've never had any problems with their cupcakes (besides with the prices)."

I hope Crumbs is still in business if I ever get downstate.
