I’ve been here and blogged about it before. But I went again, ate something different, took some more pictures, so why not?
Orzo recently had a birthday, turning 28 (sucka! I still got 6 months!), and in order to properly celebrate his entering old age – always, always, he’ll be 6 months ahead of me in that department – I took him out for lunch in the area. His choice, he could have chosen Burger Shoppe, Harry’s, Mark Joseph, Adrienne’s Pizzabar, Bobby Van’s, Roy’s, Delmonico’s, Fraunces Tavern, anywhere in the area. Well, he chose Fraunces Tavern, so that’s where we went.
Coincidentally enough, Orzo opted to start with French onion soup as well, same as my dining companion last time. Here’s a picture of his.
Blurry, I know, but also… so sloppy! Our waiter was a pretty funny guy… but funny/weird, not funny/ha-ha.
Unfortunately, the New England clam chowder I wanted was unavailable this time, but just as well since I’d ordered a seafood entree. I opted to be a little healthier and get a Caesar salad.
Those giant cracker looking things were parmesan crisps, which I’ve seen Giada make before and they are just so cheesey delicious! The salad was well dressed, though each piece was just slightly larger than bite sized. Being a very ladylike creature, I just crammed them in my mouth with abandon, using my napkin and dabbing the dressing away from my mouth where it’d landed. Yummy! We were off to a great start.
Orzo’s turkey club looked delicious, and he was extremely pleased with it. He did, however, request mustard, and eventually the waiter brought something out in a cup and said, “I think this is mustard… I’m not sure… there are no grains in it!” and walked off. I glanced at it and said, “Looks like honey mustard,” so Orzo took a taste and seemed impressed that it was indeed honey mustard. He kept it though, slathering it on his sandwich and even dipping his fries in it.
My lobster roll. Well, that’s what it was called on the menu, but it really isn’t a lobster roll since it was served on a brioche bun, not a hot dog roll. Ah well. It was really good, surprisingly, though more lobster salad than straight up lobster roll. (Pearl Oyster Bar remains my top lobster roll of course.) The fries were alright, nothing special, and I couldn’t finish them, but I did enjoy my sandwich very much.
As you can see, there’s more than just lobster inside. I wouldn’t say it was bad, it was very tasty, but I wouldn’t bill it as a lobster roll. Not too expensive either – $19 for this sandwich makes it cheaper than Pearl Oyster Bar by at least $7 (it’s been a while since I’ve been to POB).
I leave off with one last picture of my sandwich. Is that tomato?
Yvo says: Not a bad place, nice atmosphere, great location for us since it’s very close to where we work. Our entire lunch cost $60 (we drank water), with a generous tip, which I think is reasonable for 2 two course meals at a sit down restaurant in the southern Financial District (soFiDi). I still like the place and don’t find it undertasty, though it is a bit overpriced, still within reason. Our water glasses never went empty and it was an enjoyable meal.
recommended, though not necessarily to go out of your way
