Le Pain Quotidien

September 3, 2007 by Feisty Foodie 2 Comments

Just a quick post to catch me up a bit more:

A few weeks ago, my friends-with-kids (two couples in that group with kids!!!) wanted to get together for brunch for a special announcement. So we headed up to the 19th and Broadway area to go to a restaurant whose name escapes me that turned out to be closed! Boo. So we trooped next door to Le Pain Quotidien, I’d never been before, and were promptly seated at this huge country table. I thought that was pretty cool. But we’re here for the food, right?

The menu confused the heck out of me, I guess because I’m not used to seeing everything at a brunch place completely a la carte. You could order eggs, but the ham would be ordered separately, as would the toast. It was a bit disconcerting. B & I (whose dishes were the only two I managed to catch on camera) finally decided; he ordered the liege waffle (a specific type of sweet Belgian waffle with sugar crystals cooked into it, supposedly), while I ventured onto the sandwich section and ordered roast beef.

Yes, this was $5. Well, B liked it enough but wished there was syrup- it wasn’t quite sweet enough for him. I wasn’t sure he was full, either, but he seemed fine and refused my suggestions of ordering more food. He enjoyed their apple juice though.

I was a bit surprised when my sandwich arrived and it was open faced! I admit though it was quite delicious (and looking at the picture right now before lunch time is driving me mad with hunger…), as odd as it might have been to eat like that. I felt a bit like I was eating pizza, to be honest. The overall “platter” effect pleased me as well- I felt like this was worth it, at $9.50. Almost.

**Side note: Congratulations again!!! 🙂 Formerly known as AM (Amelia’s Mom) will have to be renamed… 😉

Yvo says: The experience was nice, and I liked the spreads they had out on the table for any bread you ordered- a nutella like substance and two fruit spreads that were quite yummy- but I found the overall place just a bit expensive. I might go back once in a while if I’m in the area but I don’t think this will be a regular habit…
yummy, kind of recommended
