Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me…

I’m IT in the game of virtual tag- caught by Cathy of Not Eating Out in NY!  So basically, here are Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me (and probably would never have found out if I weren’t tagged- I’m going to deviate from the food-theme, mmkay?)…

1. I’m of French, Irish and Chinese descent- not in that order.  My parents were each mixed with Chinese, and I was brought up with many Chinese traditions/cultural influences (born and raised in NYC).  Mini-fun-food-fact: I have the most trouble cooking Chinese dishes.  It’s not just all the prep work involved anymore, but I think it’s because I’ll ask my mom for a recipe and she’ll rattle off a bunch of things to do that I just simply can’t comprehend.  I have yet to make a fried (Chinese) noodle dish to my liking, honestly.  (Though I’ve posted about them, and in theory, gave the correct instructions, I haven’t mastered them yet.  Oops.)
2. I have written a novel.  I wrote it as part of NaNoWriMo last year, and boy, that was a hard month (with repercussions throughout December, actually), but so rewarding in the end, as I clutch a binder-clip bound copy to my chest.  I’m in the process of post-editing it and have distributed it amongst close friends for their critiques… and am currently waiting for responses.  Bonus info: It’s actually a satirical mystery about… the NYC foodie world. 
3. (Gosh, this list is harder than I thought… I’m having problems thinking of things non-food related!)  Oh, okay.  I love to travel almost as much as I love to eat, but I am not (though I’m getting better, I swear!) a good flyer.  Last year was a record for me, 16 flights taken (including layovers) and I can honestly say that I am growing more and more comfortable flying without any relaxation aids.  5 flights planned for next month (we’re going to Greece and Turkey), with many more to come this year, and I’m very excited.  Another fun fact: I have gone on trips specifically for the purpose of eating at a particular restaurant; before last year, these were all road trips, but last year, a group of girlfriends and I flew to Chicago for a long weekend for the sole purpose of sampling a bunch of restaurants (all documented here). 
4. Hmm… Um… I’m 5’8.  (Can’t relate that back to food, can I?)
5. I, um… I have really big feet (I’m 5’8, is what most people exasperatedly sigh at me when I say this), really long toes, and despite having man-hands *sad face I hate my man-hands* my ring size is still…. 4.  4 minus, to be exact.  And I once had a Tiffany’s saleswoman tell me snottily that I wasn’t a size 4, and that the ring she handed me didn’t fit me because my finger was really a size 5 or 6 (which you know, isn’t a big deal or anything, but I know those sizes will fall right off my finger).  I quietly asked her to size the ring for me and we discovered that it was an oddball ring that was in the size 4 batch because that’s the smallest size they carry, so there wasn’t any other drawer for it to be in.  (You could tell just by looking at it that it was smaller than the rest of the rings, so I don’t know why she was so nasty. 

Oh, I thought of a really good one!  But that’ll have to wait until another time… unless everyone wants to hear about it (let me know via comment!  No account necessary to comment!)… then I’ll post it.  Sheesh, that was hard- especially to not talk about food, haha!!!
