Mm, Fresh Direct, you are too good to me. This past week’s President’s Pick sale included yellowfin tuna for $9.99/lb., where previously it’d been $18.99/lb. Of course I jumped on it, order first, ask questions later, and proceeded to bully my non-seafood eating boyfriend into agreeing to try this when I made it…
(doesn’t it look like pork or something?!)
Since yellowfin tuna is good enough to stand on its own in all its fresh glory, I seasoned each side with some kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper and proceeded to sear it nicely on each side. As you can see, I couldn’t figure out how to cut it properly- nice, clean slices- so I just let my slices go crazy. I plopped this on top of some fresh Romaine lettuce I’d cut, then slathered the top with some mango salsa I’d whipped up. It came out great!
This was my boyfriend’s plate- I served his with some random rice I whipped up instead of salad.
The mango salsa was really easy, although I’m clearly not that good at cutting mango. I diced up two mangos and 1/4 of a (huge) large red onion and added some sprigs of cilantro to the mix. Squeezed the juice of one lime and stirred it altogether, then let it sit in a container overnight to marry the flavors. How good does that look???
My boyfriend’s verdict: he liked it, although- his words- “I wouldn’t have eaten it if not for the mango salsa.” (I also made sure to cook his tuna through a bit more than mine, because he’s so not into seafood nor sashimi…) Mine was cooked a touch rarer than his.
Enjoy!!! How easy is that?! Delicious!
