Pommes Frites

(Image on right taken from website.  I forgot to take a picture of the outside; plus there was a line out the door and it was starting to drizzle on me.  I don’t like getting my camera wet.  Sue me.)

Since my very first time at Pommes Frites many years ago (I believe it was 1999), I have not ceased to be amazed by this place.  I was blown away by how expensive ($3 for a small at the time, with one free sauce) it was, but how delicious and piping hot they came!

A year later, I saw Pommes Frites featured on the Food Network.  They described in detail the process of double frying- fry the fresh cut potatoes once partially, then again when someone orders them, which makes them extra crispy on the outside and super soft, like mashed potatoes, on the inside.  Yummy.

And through the years, I lost touch with Pommes Frites because it is a bit out of the way for someone who worked in LI, then in midtown, and now way downtown.  Then the diets started and Pommes Frites is basically my enemy now.

A few months ago I began craving the deliciou crispy fries big time, but it was not to be.  I stuffed the craving aside.

But finally, last week, a little buzzed, we finally headed over to this little hole in the wall diamond in the rough.  We ordered the small because, pigs that we were, were actually on our way to dinner a few blocks away.  My boyfriend enjoys ketchup on his fries, so I opted to order one sauce because the small is now $4!!! and sauces are not free.  I ordered the roasted garlic mayo, which smacked of freshly roasted garlic and was delicious, if you like mayo.  Which I do, occasionally and definitely on my fries.  It was yummy!!!

My boyfriend gave it a definite two thumbs’ up, and cleaned up the cone.  Ah, the cute thing is they’re served in paper cones, and the back has these wooden tables to sit at (free water at the water cooler!) with holes in them to hold the cones.  The cones get quite hot when you’re holding them fresh from the guy, so be careful- the holes come in handy.  The entire “restaurant” is very tiny, there is a little seating in the back, but this is basically a take-it-to-go kind of food.

Yvo says:  Highly recommended for delicious fries, anytime you can get your hands on them.  If you’re a little drunk, even better.  A little pricey but so worth it when you want excellent fries.  Lots of places in the area to visit for help getting drunk first, too.
