Recently, I was in the city tending to some business on the far west side. When I was done, BF and I realized how hungry we were, so we walked around about a block before I realized… oh hey! It’s Kashkaval! My friend Babydot told me about this place literally years ago, when I went to Artisanal, and told me how much she liked it, how it’s better and cheaper than Artisanal for fondue, and how much she just really thought I’d like the place. With such a rave, it’s almost a wonder I haven’t gone before – but then, I’ve [...]

Soon after I signed up as an official correspondent for Feisty Foodie, I was invited to a book release party in Soho. The book is called “The Book of Tapas” and there would be tapas and Spanish wine and sherry. Basically a win-win situation for me. Who doesn’t like tapas and wine? Alex Raij of Txikito and El Quinto Pino was the host of the evening. Apparently she was a contributor to the book, but not the author. The party was at the Phaidon Store in Soho. Basically a store for all of the publisher’s books. It was nice and [...]

A recent gathering for a special reason… sniff, sniff. We gathered at Hagi, this crazy loud Japanese izakaya/sake bar type place with lots of people screaming in Japanese. You know you’re in the right place when it’s a Japanese place and almost every single patron there is speaking Japanese fluently. But damn, the people next to us were SO loud and drunk. Spicy cod roe spaghetti, takoyaki, edamame. Good nibbles for drinking lots. You can’t see it but we were all drinking that night… even those of us sick. Hey, it was a special occasion… one of the last times [...]

After a lot of miscommunication and grumpy stomping around by me, I finally revealed to the BF that the reason for my moody sulkiness was because I was feeling woozy from not eating since the disastrous eggs benedict, which caused the bf to mock me quite a bit. Whatever, low blood sugar is no joke! However, it was coming up fast on 6pm, and we had plans to meet up with some friends of mine around 7 who happened to be in town for the very same reason as we were. (It’s a little freaky… but I’ll explain that all in a [...]

Continuing our lovely day, post-drunken-haze-movie-watching, HB, SpB, AB and I headed to Bar Stuzzichini, while StB left for other social obligations. If you read that post from StB way back when Bar Stuzzichini opened, you’ll see that I was meant to eat here over a year ago, when it first opened, but I got stuck in traffic and missed the entire meal. Blah. I haven’t been able to get back since then, so I was especially pleased this time around to be able to try Italian-style tapas (aka stuzzichini). Since we weren’t all actually hungry, just in the mood for [...]
